Warning: I'm around regularly, just not actively editing. If you need admin input/action, just leave something on my Talk.
As the name indicates, it is a stellar arena (if I do say so myself) which posts matches to determine the best of a kind! Here you will find matches painstakingly hand-crafted to range from duels to 7-way mash-ups! Note that my experience is limited largely to the main series and that I may not catch all members the first time around. Fear not, however, because you may point it out and I will later create a battle of the winner of the first round versus the ones I missed!
Each week will have an Alpha Fight and a Beta Fight. The tone will often be humorous, but I've done my best to separate the fights into ones that are more serious and mature on my part and ones that are more humorous or have more niche appeal (which may just include me). Alpha will always contain my serious fight, while Beta is more variable, either containing a humorous fight or a paired fight with Alpha. I promise to do my best to ensure each week will have a fight that will be a crowd-pleaser, be it one or the other.
These pages use extra-large tables to provide adequate width for all votes. I've done my best to be fair with voting space for all contestants. For help expanding tables in Oasis, please see the Special Announcement Concerning Tables.
If you'd prefer to see the tables in full without having to expand, open or create the page User:You/wikia.css and add the following:
/*-------- increases the width of the table wrapper to beyond the right line --*/
.WikiaWideTablesWrapper { position: relative; width: 1020px }
/*--------------------------- gets rid of the dotted line border in Explorer --*/
.WikiaWideTablesWrapper.border { border-right: none; }
/*-------------------------- sets it to not hide text overflowing from cells --*/
.WikiaWideTablesWrapper > .table { overflow: none; }
/*-------------------------------------------------- hides the popout button --*/
.WikiaWideTablesWrapper > .popout { display: none }
/*------------------------- makes the popout button not scroll with the page --*/
.WikiaWideTablesWrapper > .popout.float { display: none }
Registered users only. Please be logged in to vote.
Votes will include a leading hash (#) and terminating signature and timestamp (~~~~). Anything in between is up to you.
Tempting though it may be to show your love for more than one character in large matches, please choose who you love most unless otherwise specified.
Dirty socks belong in the laundry. Please do not leave them lying around.
My changes are final. If you were in the middle of an edit and get an edit conflict when I change the fights, your votes are out. If I get an edit conflict because of votes when I'm changing fights, those votes are also out. It's a right pain to change over fights and I'm not going to toss out 10-30 minutes worth of effort over a few votes or comments. Yes, it really does take that long.
Do not continue to edit old fights.
In cases where tie-breaking power is needed, my IRC bot, SacredMinotaur, will be used. If you see its signature (GFMinotaur and GFSacred, IRC Bots ), this means that I have gone through the process of rolling for all members of the tie until one by one they were eliminated, leaving the last.
Now that I have the bot to break ties, there's really no need to hold my votes, so I'll be voting whenever I feel like it, either before or during fight change. No need to let my vote influence yours, though. ;)
Not all ties will be broken. Call me biased, but occasionally a tie will strike my fancy and I'll leave it, and it depends on whether I have further plans for a fight, too. In most cases, ties will probably be broken, though. This IS supposed to determine the best of things, and unless you're an American at the Olympics, there's generally only room for one at the top.
Votes will be tallied and a winner chosen on Saturdays at whatever time I remember and have the ambition. As a student, my time is less than reliable and I may not feel like dealing with it right away. Note I said "Saturdays" and not "every Saturday." Due to the occasional need to put out fires, there may be times when a week is skipped. On occasion, I may update on a Sunday if a fire was successfully dealt with rather than leave everyone hanging. However, the arena should reliably run as normal.
Christmas is here and the theme of the year is who is best prepared for the season! Here we have two magical ladies from Final Fantasy VI for your judging pleasure! BluestarultorBSA 17:54, December 25, 2011 (UTC)
I wonder how many people started liking Red XIII more ever since Bluestarultor stated his positive opinion for the guy. SidVI 16:50, January 1, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, Nanaki has a touching story,But We Must Care About The Yeti Too! :-$ --LonelyRose 20:21, March 26, 2012 (UTC)
I actually use Red, that Yeti is a useless piece of crap! NeoZEROX 18:02, December 25, 2011 (UTC)
If anyone has ever wondered which character from FF I think is the most pointless. He's on the other side. The SirLaguna 19:24, December 25, 2011 (UTC)
Umaro is at best a meatshield for you against an impossible foe. Nanaki however is a valuable party member and versatile. MirrorshardSceada 01:03, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
Shame all they cut from FF7. I'd have liked to see all they'd scrapped for his story brought to life. BluestarultorBSA 01:05, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
tsetnocloL -- SorcerorNobody 01:42, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
I prefer ice, but not the character affiliated with it in this fight. 07:39, December 30, 2011 (UTC)
Umaro is my least favourite character in FFVI but in FFVII Red XIII/Nanaki is my best character...Falcis Ultima
@SidVI, my opinion is completely my own and not another user's opinion on Red XIII or any other character for that matter. Just putting that out there. Red XIII, like all VII characters is awesome, but even among them he stands out to be better than some of them. AlVan 22:05, February 7, 2012 (UTC)
Next up, we have a case of Ice vs. Fire, with a snow yeti duking it out with the second-to-last of a mysterious race! Umaro loves his home in the snows of Narshe and enjoys bone carvings and clubs, while Nanaki hails from the barrens of Cosmo Canyon, where he lived with his dear grandfather and learned about the life of the Planet!
The holidays have two sides: the commercial side and the spiritual side. No matter what holiday you celebrate, there's going to be the flashy aspect and the quiet (or not so quiet) aspect. This section lets you vent one way or another! BluestarultorBSA 17:54, December 25, 2011 (UTC)
He's good for large hordes of enemies in VII. And There's a chance he will rescue you from the Malboros in VIII. The SirLaguna 19:27, December 25, 2011 (UTC)
Despite me liking Sazh, Vanille, and Fang better I still probably had Lightning as party leader the most, and therefor used Odin the most. AlVan 22:09, February 7, 2012 (UTC)
On the one hand, Odin is Lightning's summon and Lightning is awesome. But this isn't the Summoners fighting, it's the Summons, and Odin has always been a show-off summon, he fails half the time, while Alexander has gone toe-to-toe with Bahamut and won. No question, the Iron Colossus reigns supreme. Drake Clawfang (talk)
There is one thing that Odin has never been able to do, and that's allow you to say you just killed someone with a castle. BluestarultorBSA 01:09, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
I was going to vote Odin, but then I read that and lol'd ^ -- SorcerorNobody 01:42, December 27, 2011 (UTC)
Same as SN. MystRay 21:33, December 29, 2011 (UTC)
I shall vote for the majesty and power of Alexander in FFIX. 07:40, December 30, 2011 (UTC)
Odin is cool and all, but he's utterly useless in challenging fights, and he misses half of the time on regular battles anyways. Alexander, however, has toppled even the allmighty lord of the eidolons, Bahamut. Also, I can't help but think of FFXI with these two polled together.Crunchy Moogle 05:08, March 15, 2012 (UTC)
Did you know that Santa Claus derives a large portion of his image from the Norse god Odin? The pipe and long white beard are Odin's trademarks! Of course, Saint Nicholas, patron of children, is who we've been taught to think of from childhood on. Here the two duke it out for the title of true Santa in giant doom mechs, with Odin taking his titular ride and Nick borrowing Alexander! It looks like Odin's also brought along a Valkyrie, while Nick is letting a young boy get the crowd riled up!
Ifrit's appearance has changed a lot over the course of the series and has almost always been pretty awesome. Plus, in general, he remains useful despite often being one of the first summons you get. Bluestarultor☆BSAtalk 02:30, October 18, 2011 (UTC)

Cerberus may be my Eidolon, but Fenrir was always my first choice. SidVI 13:40, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

In honor of Halloween, all your deities of death and destruction fight it out! Ifrit, or more properly Efreet, is a type of Jinn which inhabits the underworld, and like his kin exists to tempt and confound humans!
Shiva is the Hindu god of destruction, whose job, despite being benevolent to humans, is to destroy and recreate the world while representing both the male and female in his own body! I can think of NOTHING scarier than that! Keep it tucked, there, buddy!
Next in line is Fenrir, who was tricked into being chained and has been building up rage to break it and start Ragnarok to end the world! You'll see him unleashed for this battle!
Then we have Hades, the Greek god of the underworld! Disney's given him a bad rap, but let me tell you, he's a lucky, lucky man to have the beautiful Persephone! Is that pot cooking love potion or cyanide? You decide!
Weighing in at the density of a neutron star we have Diabolos! Is he a devil or THE Devil? I guess we'll see in the ring!
Finally, a little late to be coming on his master's heels, the one and only Cerberus! This little doggy guards Hades' realm with his unending hunger for living flesh, letting the dead come in, but guarding them from coming back out to be alive again! Let's see how he fares against five-to-four odds with that charming snake tail of his!
Note: The arena is still on hiatus, but since you guys keep voting in it, here's hoping this tides you over until Christmas. BluestarultorBSA 02:09, October 17, 2011 (UTC)

In this fight, we have horrors who aren't quite up to god status! First up, the ever-tentacled Mindflayer! Said to suck brains right out of their victims' heads, these guys sure have enough of their own and are powerful sorcerers!
Then, coming in from through the wall, it's Phantom! Who did he used to be? Why is he still here now? Will he be able to land a punch on the opponents, or will it just phase through? Only time will tell!
Hear that? The bell tolls for thee! Or at least anyone caught in the railroad crossing! Weighing in at several tons, it's Doomtrain!
Whoa! That anchor falling can only mean-! Why, yes! It's Anima, the resident mummy being eaten by a venus flytrap! Nobody else has that level of showmanship folks! You can feel the Pain oozing out of every pore!
Swooping into the ring on two and a half wings, it's Zalera and his partner the enigmatic Shamaness! The two are said to be inseparable! Lucky guy!
Finally we have Cúchulainn bouncing and rolling down the catwalk! My, he looks so jolly! Jack's got nothing on this guy when it comes to impersonating Santa Claus! Named for an Irish hero, rumors say this guy might try to cop a feel of Zalera's partner, there! Careful, Zalera! This guy may try to steal your woman away!
And there's the bell! BluestarultorBSA 02:09, October 17, 2011 (UTC)
Like I said in Crono's arena, Cloud is my favorite Final Fantasy character and second favorite video game character of all time. Kamikaze Pardee 00:54, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
My second most favorite Video game character behind Zidane of course. Razordash 01:00, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Cloud is just so much cooler.AlVan 01:25, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Honestly, Sephy is not as good a villain as some people claim. I'll admit he gets some things very right, like toying with the heroes personally and actually killing his biggest threat (admittedly too late), but then despite having good build-up, he kind of squanders his screen time. Also, it's very hard to determine his levels of insanity and obsession, which means he doesn't really excel in either like Kefka or Kuja and Vayne, respectively. For that matter, his screen time is pretty limited, which hampers the toying aspect. Cloud as of FF7 is actually pretty normal despite there being tip-offs right off the bat that he has some issues. He's a very passable hero that the player has surprising control over personality-wise. BluestarultorBSA 01:29, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Er... blond? Really? Well, anyway, definitely the better swordsman, and the hair is faaaaaaaaabulous! -- SorcerorNobody 14:20, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Both of them are very overrated, but at least Sephiroth deserves it. I can't voice it enough times how it should have been Zack as the lead character in FF7. Cloud is not that cool, only maybe in the fights in AC. --RazielZero 19:49, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Well,I like both of them...I just vote here,because my vote won't change anything at all...I see,Cloud'll win. I just don't know why people say Sephiroth's hair is Girlish! Imagine it: You're standing between the burning houses of Nibelheim! Sephiroth with his Girlish hair is walking around, slaying everyone in front of your eyes, and suddenly, he points you out! You take a deep look into his eyes, while he is approaching you, and you hear his Masamune is whistling silently next to your ears! And suddenly, you point out his long-long hair! Could you really start laughing at him? :-D I wonder how he would react! X-D --LonelyRose 12:52, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

Cid is more his own character. Mr. Tea, not Mr. T -- SorcerorNobody 14:22, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Barret is cool, Cid is cooler. Though I don't really like him as a dragoon compared to the other dragoons in the series. --RazielZero 19:46, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Oddly enough, also the two potentially most powerful damage-dealers in the game! BluestarultorBSA 23:53, August 28, 2011 (UTC)
Hey! Isn't this in honor of FFVII PC, Bluesey? Because you know that in that game they call Ungarmax Angermax, yes? (Which, by the way, confuses me. How do you mistake ungar and anger?) Jimcloud 04:40, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
I think I AM the hugest fan of COMIC RELIEF characters!For Example:GAU!He is still one of my top favourites!Mog too! And honestly,I hoped that I will once use Caith Sith as an "ALWAYS PARTY CHARACTER",but sadly,it turned out to be a vaste of time!His attacks never really worked,and when you're in the middle of a serious fight,there's just no time for gambling!You need strong and immediate attacks,and not 30% chance,that it'll deal minimal amount of damage!On the other hand,I nearly always kept Red XIII in my team!He wasn't a REAL BIG DEAL Either...but he did his job much better than Cait Sith could ever do!--LonelyRose 12:40, August 31, 2011 (UTC)
Hotter, better damage dealer, the one who actually belongs with Cloud (anyone who has played CC knows to whom Aerith belongs), fully represented in 012, and probably the most important, she lives. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 02:29, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Tifa is good, but this is the one I fell in love with playing for the first time. And she can do front row. People seem unable to fathom doing anything but loading her down with Materia despite Vincent being weaker and even more magically-oriented and being made a physical mule all the time. BluestarultorBSA 01:35, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Better looks, better character, better backstory, better love interest. Drake Clawfang (talk) 02:27, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
While I agree with DSS that Aerith belongs with Zack, I also do dislike Tifa to an extent unparalleled by any other character from the FF-franchise. Also, Aerith wrote 89 letters to her love, despite never getting an answer. Such devotion deserves admiration. MirrorshardSceada 09:32, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
I like Tifa, I just hate the hype about her boobs. Although that doesn't really matter here since Aerith is way better anyway. Also, Aerith is with Zack, stop trying to pair her with Cloud! >:( --RazielZero 19:39, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
It's not that I vote for Aerith because of Posing...But Think guys!!!She Is A GEOMANCER!:-D--LonelyRose 12:32, August 31, 2011 (UTC)
No, Cloud cannot have them both. Pick one! BluestarultorBSA 23:53, August 28, 2011 (UTC)
Congratulations on breaking my heart Bluesey. It took me forever to decide and I even asked my 12-year-old sister for her opinion. Let's just say I don't know why I asked her, but her vote doesn't count anyways. XD Kamikaze Pardee 01:07, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
@TheSirLaguna: Well, if you want that to be a valid argument, it needs to be an equal comparison, not a one-sided one. In other words, we'll need to kill Tifa too >:D -- SorcerorNobody 20:15, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
