Undin Entite is an enemy in Final Fantasy XII. It is the Water-elemental Entite found in two locations: Cerobi Steppe during rainy weather, and in the Pharos where it has a 30% chance of appearing. The Entite at the Pharos has a slightly lower Vitality than the one in the Steppe. It is also fought in the Zodiac versions' Trial Mode at Stage 77 along with four Water Elementals, where an Elixir can be rarely stolen from it.

It is docile in the Cerobi Steppe and aggressive at the Pharos.

Page 1: Observations

The gods gave water to Man to purify and cleanse pollution, and they made the rains fall to purify and cleanse the land. The clean land gave rise to flowers and plants, nurturing Man. Yet Man continued to pollute himself and the land, trusting ever in the gods to cleanse what damage he had wrought, so the gods sent down a deluge until the land was sunk in deep waters. It is said this deluge gave rise to the undin entite.

Page 2: The Entite Pact

The power of water is the power of benediction. Blessing to all it gives, yet it covers all, jealously wanting for itself. Wield the roaring flame, wither the water's lust until its desire is parched and dry. The water, once withered, will be reborn as tears, and when those tears flow, thence will you find the shining electrum.

Stats

The Original Japanese Guidebook cites the Undin Entites' MP as being 16500, but subsequent guides list it as 999.

Battle

Undin Entite's attacks consist of Silencega, Sleepga, and Fear, which reduces one character's MP. Its attack spell is Waterga (Aquaga in Zodiac versions). It is docile at Cerobi Steppe, but attacks when provoked or when magick is used nearby. When encountered at the Pharos, they are not docile.

Strategy

It may be best avoided during the party's first visit to Cerobi Steppe if it's raining, as it is may be too strong to beat. If the party chooses to confront it, equipping Rose Corsages evades Silence, and Viking Coats nullify Waterga (Aquaga). A good weapon to use is the Burning Bow with Fiery Arrows, as the wielder deals 50% more damage with Fire attacks.

Etymology

Undin Entites are named after Undines. Undines are elementals, enumerated as the water elementals in works of alchemy by Paracelsus. They also appear in European folklore as fairy-like creatures; the name may be used interchangeably with those of other water spirits. In German myths, Ondines are water nymphs.

The entite enemy family alludes to Vagrant Story, another game by Yasumi Matsuno, who was the original director of Final Fantasy XII. In Vagrant Story Undine Bracelet is a bracelet imbued with the essence of an undine water spirit.
