Ultima Beam in Final Fantasy VII.

Ultima Beam (アルテマビーム, Arutema Bīmu?) is a recurring enemy ability in the series. It is an ability used exclusively by Ultima Weapon, originating in Final Fantasy VII.

Appearances

Final Fantasy VII

Ultima Beam is an enemy ability used by Ultimate Weapon, which inflicts major non-elemental magic damage to the party at the cost of 40 MP. It is the only attack in the game in which the player can use the Elemental materia combined with a non-elemental materia to absorb it due to it being the only offensive attack in the game to use the hidden Hidden element.

Etymology

Ultima means "the last" in Latin and many Latin-based languages. In the Spanish versions of many Final Fantasy games, it is written as "Artema," a close transliteration of the Japanese katakana.
