+ | Uhlan is a License Board in the Zodiac versions of Final Fantasy XII, represented by the zodiac sign of Taurus. Uhlan is a powerful spear-wielding job who equips heavy armor. |
− | |||
⚫ | |||
The Uhlan has access to 131 licenses, which require 7,431 LP to unlock, as well as up to 9 additional licenses through summon licenses costing 530 LP, and 2 additional licenses costing 90 LP through Quickening licenses. |

||
⚫ | Uhlan is similar to the classical Dragoon job in its heavy armor and use of spears as its main weapon. However, it cannot use the Jump command. Spears and poles can hit flying opponents in the Zodiac versions. Uhlan also bears some similarity to the Dark Knight job due to its access to Black Magicks, all of which are locked behind Espers. It is a well-rounded role that yet doesn't particularly shine in any department. Its main boon is that it can equip the Zodiac Spear. |
||
+ | |||
+ | In The Zodiac Age version, the player can use two license boards for each party member. Uhlan works well alone as a dedicated damage dealer, but offers little to other boards, and benefits little from them in return. It has good HP and Battle Lores, but comes second to Monk in this regard. It has two Swiftness licenses, which is below average; seven of the jobs get three Swiftness licenses and five get them without having to buy Espers or Quickenings. |
||
+ | |||
+ | One combination for Uhlan is to pair it with the Archer to benefit from Archer's Swiftness licenses, while Archer benefits from Uhlan's high Strength. Combining Uhlan with Bushi would benefit katana damage from Uhlan's high Strength and heavy armor. This combination allows the character to equip both Holy Lance (Holy-elemental spear) with White Robes (boosts Holy-elemental damage by 50%). |
||
+ | |||
+ | Pairing Shikari with Uhlan gives the former some heavy armor and ability to hit flying enemies with spears and covers every element in the game. Pairing Uhlan with a White Mage gives the latter offensive options in increased HP, using spears, and in Black Magick. Pairing Uhlan with Time Battlemage nets some extra Swiftness and Time Magicks, Cura (from Adrammelech, which also gives +1 Battle Lore) and Ether Lore 2. |
||
+ | |||
+ | Pairing Uhlan with Machinist gives it access to weapons of all eight elements, and a way to damage high-defense enemies. The Uhlan also gains the ability to support the party with Hastega and Item Lores, while the Machinist benefits from the extra defense provided by the Uhlan's heavy armor. |

Warriors who wield spears to pierce enemy armor.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age description
Uhlan is a License Board in the Zodiac versions of Final Fantasy XII, represented by the zodiac sign of Taurus. Uhlan is a powerful spear-wielding job who equips heavy armor.
The Uhlan has access to 131 licenses, which require 7,431 LP to unlock, as well as up to 9 additional licenses through summon licenses costing 530 LP, and 2 additional licenses costing 90 LP through Quickening licenses.
Profile
Uhlan is similar to the classical Dragoon job in its heavy armor and use of spears as its main weapon.
In The Zodiac Age version, the player can use two license boards for each party member.
One combination for Uhlan is to pair it with the Archer to benefit from Archer's Swiftness licenses, while Archer benefits from Uhlan's high Strength. Combining Uhlan with Bushi would benefit katana damage from Uhlan's high Strength and heavy armor. This combination allows the character to equip both Holy Lance (Holy-elemental spear) with White Robes (boosts Holy-elemental damage by 50%).
Pairing Shikari with Uhlan gives the former some heavy armor and ability to hit flying enemies with spears and covers every element in the game.
Pairing Uhlan with Machinist gives it access to weapons of all eight elements, and a way to damage high-defense enemies. The Uhlan also gains the ability to support the party with Hastega and Item Lores, while the Machinist benefits from the extra defense provided by the Uhlan's heavy armor.

Etymology
Uhlan were originally Polish light cavalry soldiers armed with lances, sabres, pistols, and rifles. Later they also served in the Prussian and Austrian armies. Similar troops also existed in other European armies, where they were instead known as "lancers" or "dragoons." The name of Uhlan instead of "dragoon", a traditional Final Fantasy job, was chosen because the game has no Jump command available to the player.
[1]Traditionally in FF games it's a ryûkishi (dragoon/lancer) who carries a spear, but in this game there's no jumping, so that didn't really fit. I began to research what else might go with a spear, and discovered that there were soldiers called Uhlan in Poland who carried them, so that decided that.
