One staple for the party in this battle should be a Sentinel. Since Ugallu uses moderately powerful area-of-effect attacks, the party can take some major damage without one present. After the first Stagger, Ugallu begins to attack in even more rapid succession. This is particularly dangerous to the party and makes a Sentinel absolutely mandatory. A recommended Sentinel is Bunkerbeast with Fringeward, which is arguably one of the best Sentinels in the game.

Since Ugallu is immune to Dispel, one has to deal with the beginning boost he gains from the Roar ability. One can, however, inflict other ailments such as Deprotect and Deshell on him, which will make things much easier. A Synergist can also be helpful to rack up the damage.

For a mid-level party, Ugallu can be a threat if one finds little time to intercept with a chain building paradigm. If a Saboteur is available, it will likely be doing as much boosting as the main attacking paradigm. Delta Attack (RAV-COM-SEN) is recommended for this battle to reduce AoE damage while building a steady chain. The secondary paradigms should have a Sentinel and Medic in order to cure the various status ailments Ugallu inflicts with Virulent Breath and to keep HP stable.

Ugallu was a monster from the seeress's future. Its very existence in her time was a contradiction, an impossibility. If it was not destroyed, the tear in spacetime would grow until it consumed the entire nation. So the seeress made the fateful decision to break her own vows and seal the beast within the Void Beyond.

The goal here is to take the brunt of his attacks with the Sentinel and build up his stagger slowly but surely. Once stagger is achieved, it's not recommended to switch to an all-out offensive paradigm. Even though he's staggered, he can still cause a great deal of damage to your party. Go with the flow and try to hold a steady strategy to fell this mighty beast.

Ugallu is an enemy in Final Fantasy XIII-2. It can be encountered in the southwest part of Yaschas Massif -110 AF- even if its associated quest is not active. All ten Crimson Memories-category fragments must be collected before an eleventh orb-shaped time distortion appears on the outskirts of the Archaeopolis, giving the quest to kill Ugallu.

Datalog

The monster Ugallu once descended upon ancient Paddra. Many a l'Cie and mighty warrior faced the beast, but none were able to subjugate it. Only the seeress Paddra Nsu-Yeul of the Farseers knew the true extent of the menace it posed.

Battle

Ugallu can be dangerous foe. It begins battle by using Roar, giving itself many beneficial status effects that cannot be dispelled. It will then begin attacking the party, alternating between physical attacks and Virulent Breath, which inflicts several status ailments. Ugallu uses moderately powerful area-of-effect (AoE) attacks; after the first stagger, its attacks come in even more rapid succession.

It deals high damage to multiple targets at once, fast.

Strategy

Deploying a Sentinel is one of the damage control options. In particular, a Sentinel with Fringeward, such as Bunkerbeast, will give additional protection against the area attacks. Delta Attack (RAV/COM/SEN) is an ideal paradigm as it reduces area-of-effect damage while building a fast chain. The tension is between the need for defensive and offensive options; the more defense is required, the lower the party's offense, the slower the battle and the more elusive the rewards offered by stagger.

The boost Ugallu gains from the Roar ability cannot be removed, but it can be countered with a Saboteur who can inflict ailments such as Deprotect and Deshell on him. Saboteur will also boost the chain. Sentinel's damage reduction combines well with Medic to keep HP stable, and a Medic can cure the various status ailments Ugallu inflicts with Virulent Breath. A Synergist is a final option, capable of increasing allies' damage and decreasing enemy damage.

Ugallu can be a threat if one finds little time to intercept with a chain building paradigm. The goal is to take the brunt of his attacks with the Sentinel and build up his stagger slowly but surely. All-out offensive paradigms are counter-indicated; even once stagger is achieved, he can still cause a great deal of damage.
