He's not so great with words, but his strength'll blow you away!
Ultros about Typhon.
Typhon is a downloadable content boss along with Ultros in Final Fantasy XIII-2 in the match, "Uninvited Invertebrate".
Stats[]
Battle[]
The fight begins with Ultros alone. After his HP is halved, a brief cutscene occurs wherein he summons Typhon to aid him, and the fight restarts.
Typhon provides the main offense of the pair, with Ultros opting to buff Typhon with various status enhancements. Typhon is immune to all status ailments except Curse while fighting, including Dispel, limiting the use of a Saboteur. Should the player attack Ultros and drop his HP below 40%, Typhon will cast Renew on him, restoring all of his HP. Therefore the player must focus on Typhon to win the battle.
Typhon starts the battle with Veil, Protect, Shell and Vigilance, and has an array of powerful attacks, all of which can hit multiple targets and always dispel one of his status enhancements. If an attack requires a specific status, it is also dispelled. His basic attack can inflict Imperil; Gnash requires Bravery, and heals Typhon by the amount of damage dealt; Snort requires Veil, and deals major magical damage, half of it in wound damage, dispels all status enhancements, launches and also removes Vigilance; Fireball is only used if Typhon's HP is below 60%, requires Enfire, and deals defense-piercing, fire-elemental magic damage 15 times, launches and also dispels Faith.
Typhon will attack at least three times, then use Snort if he has Veil. Renew takes the place of one these attacks, and dispels two enhancements instead of one.
When he loses all of his status enhancements or 180 seconds have passed, Typhon loses his motivation and becomes afflicted with Pain, Fog, Curse, Imperil, Deprotect, Deshell, Debrave and Defaith. At this point Ultros stops attacking and starts motivating him, healing Typhon for 10,000 and removing his status ailments. Two are removed at a time the first four times, three every time after that. After all ailments are removed, Typhon uses Graaah! to bestow himself with Protect, Shell, Veil, Bravery, Faith, Haste, Vigilance and Enfire, and to heal for 5% of his lost HP. If 70 seconds have passed or Ultros's HP falls below 8,928, Typhon regains his motivation, removes his remaining status ailments and recast Veil, Protect, Shell and Vigilance.
Once Typhon has been defeated, the battle ends with a Cinematic Action sequence.
Strategy[]
Recommended paradigms (Serah, Noel, Monster):
- Delta Attack (RAV/COM/SEN) - default paradigm
- Solidarity (MED/COM/SEN)
- Tortoise (SEN/SEN/SEN)
- Decimation-W (RAV/COM/SYN) - Monster Synergist must know either Bravega or Faithga.
- Relentless Assault (RAV/RAV/COM)
- Cerberus-X (COM/COM/COM)
Having a Sentinel active throughout the fight is a good move. When the Snort or Fireball notification appears, it is wise to shift to an all-Sentinel paradigm (Tortoise) to mitigate damage. Typhon is capable of alternating between Snort and Fireball, so occasional healing between attacks, and using Remedies to remove Daze, is required.
When Typhon ceases his attack the player should use the breathing space to shift to an offensive paradigm like Relentless Assault (or Cerberus-X, if Typhon is staggered), even if the party members are in need of healing. It may also be worth shifting to a paradigm with a monster Synergist that knows Bravega or Faithga.
Paradigm Pack[]
Typhon is recruitable as a Commando. His stat development is weighted towards HP initially, but his Magic is heavily boosted at Level 13, allowing him to have the highest Magic stat for a monster Commando. His passive abilities Auto Enaero, Auto Enfire and Weak Spot allow him to inflict even more damage against certain enemies. One large drawback is that he has a very long animation casting length, so he may not inflict as much damage as his stats and skillset suggest.
