Variant form of the behemoth. They are bred and raised as Shinra lab specimens and other monsters quake in fear at the sound of their roar.

Enemy Intel

Type-0 Behemoth is an optional boss in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission". In the base game, it is fought in Sector 7's underground Shinra lab by Cloud, Tifa, and Barret as part of the odd job "Subterranean Menace" in Chapter 14, "In Search of Hope". The Type-0 Behemoth drops the key item "Behemoth Horn" required for "Secret Medicine". Type-0 Behemoth can also be fought in the Shinra Combat Simulator as part of the "vs. Monsters of Legends" challenge, only available on hard mode. In "Episode INTERmission" it is fought in the Combat Simulator challenge "Yuffie & Sonon vs. Midgarian Monsters" after the player completes the episode.

Type-0 Behemoth is the only behemoth-type enemy fought in the game, reminiscent of the Behemoth fought in the original game, also appearing in Midgar, though Type-0 shares the under-the-skin red glow with the unknown entities. Its horns are the same shape as those of Arch Azul from Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-. Arch Azul-DoC

Battle[]

The Type-0 Behemoth resists all elements as well as magical damage. It will counterattack all magic spells against it. The Type-0 Behemoth uses powerful melee attacks and leaps around the battlefield. Its lower body (back) and upper body (belly) are weak points, and should be crippled. Its other targetable part is the horn, which is immune to damage. After it uses Rampage, it temporarily resists all characters' weapons and many of its its other attacks send out damaging shockwaves as well. At lower HP, it can make boulders rain down around it, reminiscent of the behemoths' recurring Meteor skill from the Final Fantasy series.

Crippling the behemoth's lower or upper body temporarily topples the beast, making it only able to use limited melee attacks. When this happens, the player should cripple its other body part quickly to stagger it, as it can't be staggered any other way. The horn can be damaged when the beast is staggered, and when the horn is crippled, the Type-0 Behemoth is no longer able to retaliate to magic spells. After recovering from stagger, Type-0 Behemoth uses Revitalize to restore its upper and lower body. If the party did not take out the horn yet, it becomes immune to damage again.

The Type-Behemoth is susceptible to all status effects except for Sleep Sleep. It can be afflicted with Stop Stop, but will still use Counter Flare under this effect unless it has been staggered.

It has an enchanted ring to steal.

Strategy[]

Barret is best using a gun against Type-0 Behemoth rather than a melee arm and stay a distance from Cloud and Tifa; this way, if the boss focuses on Cloud or Tifa, Barret can shoot its lower body, while if it focuses on Barret, Tifa and Cloud have the opportunity to deal damage to the body from behind with their melee attacks. When the behemoth resists weapon damage after using Rampage, the player should stay defensive until this phase ends, and simply use Barret to shoot at it and deal a little damage in the meantime. When the boulders fall down, the player should keep at range.

After crippling a body part, the boss falls down. The player should keep dealing damage to both body parts before crippling one, and then quickly finish off the remaining body part when it is down. Once the behemoth is staggered, the player can lock it in place with Stop Stop and use Tifa's Triangle techniques with Unbridled Strength increase the damage it receives, and Cloud's Infinity's End does great damage. Cloud can equip ATB Boost Materia ATB Boost Materia to quickly top up to 2 ATB bars to pull it off in time. Haste Haste is a useful buff to bestow as always, perhaps to the entire party with Magnify Materia Magnify Materia.

Though this will prompt it to use Counter Flare, Type-0 Behemoth can be inflicted with Poison Poison with Bio spells to deal passive damage over time.

Hard Mode[]

Similar tactics apply as before: the party is best crippling the lower and upper bodies to stagger the boss, then use Tifa's Unbridled Strength and True Strike to increase stagger damage, and lay into it with Barret's Maximum Fury and Cloud's Infinity's End. Beyond this, Barret should use Lifesaver and Steelskin throughout the fight, with Regen Regen and possibly Barrier Barrier cast on him. Using Pray should be all the healing the party needs, and any healing spells are just spent on Barret, who is covering for the rest of the party. Cloud's Counterstance allows him to deal damage to the beast while taking minimal damage himself, but not all of Behemoth's attacks can be countered.

Defeating the Type-0 Behemoth will earn Barret the Sharpshooter's Companion Vol. X.

Episode INTERmission[]

The strategy is similar to when it is fought in the base game: to cripple its lower and upper body to stagger it, and then destroy its horns to remove a major source of damage. For Yuffie and Sonon, this can be done by waiting for it to stay in one place, and using Synergized Art of War to destroy its lower body, then immediately using the same move to destroy its upper body and stagger it. After this, a mix of Synergized Art of War and a Banishment from Yuffie can bring it down. Brumal Form can come in handy to allow Yuffie to dodge many powerful attacks.

Etymology[]

The word Type followed by a number is a common way to name a weapon or product in a production series, similar in meaning to "Mark". "Type" was used by the Japanese and Chinese militaries beginning in the 1920s, and is still in use by the Chinese military.

Behemoth is a beast mentioned in Job 40:15–24. In addition to mythological creatures, it is likened to dinosaurs, especially sauropods, as well as elephants, hippos, rhinos, and bison. Metaphorically, the term behemoth denotes "an extremely large or powerful entity".
