The Twin Viper is a weapon for Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII. It can first be found in the Mansion in Nibelheim. It has modest stats, but provides four Materia slots with double AP growth.

Obtained[]

Twin Viper is found on the first floor of the Mansion in Nibelheim, earliest obtained during "Unnatural Hometown". It can also be purchased in Junon for 3,200 gil after the player has the Highwind.

Mechanics[]

As the Twin Viper has a base Attack stat bonus of 36, the base damage for physical attacks when it is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Yuffie's current level and "Strength" is her Strength stat. The Twin Viper also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 108%, and grants a +8 bonus to Yuffie's Magic stat.

The Twin Viper is outclassed by most of Yuffie's weapons even when it is first obtained in terms of pure stats, but is useful for its double AP growth; all Materia on its slots gain double the AP they normally would, making it useful to level some Materia up quickly and early.

Twin Viper has four slots, and all should be given to Materia that can level up. As it can't benefit from Support Materia, this can be detrimental if Yuffie is being built towards a magic damage role (though Yuffie is viable for both physical and magical damage), limiting her ability to clear waves of enemies. Therefore, when level grinding, giving her or another character an Enemy Skill Materia on armor, with an ability such as Matra Magic or Aqualung, can make up for this disadvantage.

Twin Viper outclasses the Wind Slash due to having an additional slot, but falls far short of the Rising Sun. Rising Sun's slots are all linked, and its stats are higher-tier, rendering Twin Viper obsolete once obtained. Before this, Twin Viper makes Yuffie equally as competent as any character with a double AP growth weapon around the time Twin Viper is obtained, until other characters have access to more powerful weapons with greater AP growth.

Etymology[]

The Viperidae (vipers) are a family of venomous snakes found all over the world that have relatively long, hinged fangs that permit deep penetration and injection of venom.
