Trouble is a negative status effect in Final Fantasy IX. The afflicted will share half the subsequent damage they received with allies when attacked physically. If the struck target is weak to the attacker's killer ability or weapon element, the increased damage they take is reflected in the distributed damage. Though most normal enemies can be inflicted, the status will not do anything against solitary enemies who have no allies to share damage with. The only way to heal this status effect is by using the Annoyntment item. The Trouble status remains after battle and is not automatically healed like some other status ailments, unless with Guardian Mog in effect. The afflicted has a sad face icon on them when in battle.
Trouble is not much of a hindrance when inflicted onto party members, and is niche to use against on enemies as they rarely appear in large groups in Final Fantasy IX. The only tough enemy group is Yans, where inflicting other status abnormalities is much more beneficial. The enemy groups with four enemies are against Cactuars, Feather Circles, and Hornets in the endgame.
