Slash three enemies in quick succession, dealing more damage with each blow.

Description

Triple Slash is an ability for Cloud in Final Fantasy VII Remake, provided by the Iron Blade Iron Blade. Cloud quickly performs a dash attack to his first target, then immediately switches toward a random second and third target with a slash of his sword. If there is only one enemy, Cloud performs all slashes against the same opponent.

Damage formula:

Where Cloud's Attack Power is his Attack Power Attack Power attribute, and Target's Defense is the target's Defense Defense attribute
Power Modifiers
Multiple Targets: 6 (1.7 + 1.9 + 2.4)
Single Target: 2.985 (1.7 + 1.045 + .24)
*Additional damage from Elemental Materia always uses Power Modifiers for multiple targets

Stagger formula:

Where Pressured Rate is used rather than Stagger Rate while the target is pressured, and Physical Melee Stagger Rate Modifier is the respective stagger rate modifier of the target
Stagger Rate: 3 (1 x 3 hits)
Pressured Rate: 6 (2 x 3 hits)

When only a single enemy is targeted, each subsequent hit will receive a large damage reduction, with the damage of the second hit being reduced down to 55%, or "104.5 Power", and the third hit to 10%, or "24 Power". This reduction does not apply to damage added by the Elemental Materia Elemental Materia.

Triple Slash is a powerful ability for Cloud that becomes his best ability for clearing out mobs of enemies. Triple Slash will spread its damage across all enemies, while each hit has a wide horizontal area-of-effect, and the range of subsequent attacks is high enough that Cloud can still reach his other targets at a distance. Triple Slash takes advantage of Cloud's core strength of being able to deal melee damage spread across multiple clustered opponents. The final strike can launch the target, which can interrupt and pressure enemies.

Against one opponent, Triple Slash will hit the same enemy three times, but halves the total damage it can deal, drastically reducing its effectiveness. Triple slash can still be worthwhile without having multiple targets as it can interrupt, launch, and damage more evasive enemies that might be hard to hit with his stronger single-target abilities. It is also great at closing the gap on even a single enemy while still dealing respectable damage and stagger.

Triple Slash can end encounters with multiple weaker enemies quickly. A great choice is to equip Cloud with First Strike Materia First Strike Materia to start battles with Triple Slash to deal heavy damage quickly to all his enemies.

Additional damage added by the elemental materia will remain at full strength regardless of how many enemies are targeted. This means that when using elemental materia paired with a Magic Materia Magic Materia that target's the enemy's elemental weakness, single targets will take considerably higher damage from the second and third hits than they normally would, especially with a high Magic Attack Magic Attack. This makes Triple Slash considerably more viable for single target damage, particularly in magic-based builds. Because the damage difference from physical to elemental is very high, having the materia paired to an enemy's absorbed element is also capable of healing the target rather than dealing damage.

Braver is stronger against a single target, while Focused Thrust is better against pressured enemies that need to be staggered. Infinity's End deals more damage, particularly against staggered targets, if Cloud can build up ATB for it in time. Finally, Blade Burst is preferable against enemies that resist physical damage, or if Cloud has a strong magic damage focus without using elemental.
