Tri-disaster is a Summoner ability from Final Fantasy XIV that deals single-target damage while inflicting both Bio and Miasma.
Mechanics[]
|
Damage over time (DoT) effects deal damage every server tick, or 3 seconds, independent of the effect's duration. This means that the effect may deal damage anywhere between 0 and 3 seconds after it is applied, and in 3 second intervals afterwards.
Use[]
Tri-disaster deals instant damage to a single target and inflicts the user's strongest Bio and Miasma DoT effects on the target. Having both statuses in a single ability saves the Summoner from spending two global cooldowns (GCD) to inflict them with the usual Bio or Miasma spells, improving overall DPS. When accounting for the total damage dealt by the two DoT effects and Tri-disaster's own base potency, it is the most powerful single-target action in the Summoner's arsenal.
Tri-disaster's 50s recast is longer than the 30s duration of the statuses, forcing the Summoner too occasionally use the base spells to reapply the statuses between Tri-disasters. However, both Dreadwyrm Trance and
Firebird Trance, learned at levels 58 and 72 respectively, reset the recast timer of Tri-disaster when used, further reducing the Summoner's reliance on the base spells.
Statuses inflicted by Tri-disaster benefit from all the same synergies as though they were inflicted by the regular spells, increasing the damage dealt by Fester and potentially being spread to multiple targets by
Bane.
Tri-disaster is an instant cast ability that is off the global cooldown (oGCD). This allows players to weave it between global cooldowns after using instant cast spells such as Egi Assault II, and is best saved for these situations in order to maximize DPS. It is even possible to double weave Tri-disaster with the aforementioned Fester or Bane within a single GCD.
In order to maximize efficiency on DoT effects, it is generally recommended to reapply them with under 3 three seconds remaining, as the final tick of damage from the effect can occur anywhere in that window. This may result in the loss of a tick, but waiting for the effect to drop off before reapplying can result in the loss of two or more ticks and greater DPS loss.
PvP[]
Tri-disaster only inflicts Bio III in PvP due to the absence of Miasma spells. In exchange, it now also fills the Summoner's Aetherflow Gauge. With
Energy Drain being a spell in PvP and the only other Aetherflow generator, this allows Tri-disaster to still save the Summoner the use of two GCDs.
Much like the PvE version, Tri-disaster has a long cooldown, necessitating the occasional use of the regular Bio III spell. Aetherflow is also only generated one at a time, so Tri-disaster can't be relied on as a Aetherflow generator, instead using the GCD Energy Drain to fill most of their gauge.
In PvP, Aetherflow is required to use Bane,
Dreadwyrm Trance, and
Firebird Trance, in addition to
Fester and
Painflare. Fester, Bane, and the Trances all retain their usual synergies with Tri-disaster.
