Treasure Hunter Rank is a ranking system in Final Fantasy IX, which measures the amount of treasures the player has obtained during the playthrough. Upon reaching the highest possible rank, the player can meet up with Gilgamesh in Daguerreo, who will reward the party with the Rank S Award key item. Obtaining it yields the Another Man's Treasure achievement/trophy in the newest releases of Final Fantasy IX.

The treasure hunting ranking is determined by a point system:

  • 1 point for every opened chest, searched field icon, and item gained in an event sequence (including the Elixir and the Extension obtained from the Kupo Nut quest), and every key item purchased in Treno Auction House (with the exceptions of Magical Fingertip and Pearl Rouge).
  • 2 points for every chest found on the world map while riding Choco.

No points are given for items dug in the Chocobo Hot and Cold minigame, or items bought from Stiltzkin.

To find out the current rank, the player can talk to a woman at the Treno inn, or to Gilgamesh in Daguerreo. The lowest rank is H.

To reach Rank S, the player will need 340 points, which is ~75% of the game's treasures. Final Fantasy IX – Excalibur II Perfect Game Guide by Atomos199 has a treasure list that can be used to keep track on which treasures have been collected. The player does not need to collect every treasure to reach Rank S, and attaining the highest rank is possible by the time the player first visits Daguerreo.

Etymology[]

Treasure is a concentration of riches, often one which is considered lost or forgotten until being rediscovered.
