The Train Graveyard is a field map in Final Fantasy VII. Just west of the Sector 7 Slums, its north portion can be visited by the player early on, though both the south and north portions are visited during the main story by a party of Cloud, Aeris, and Tifa. This is an unrevisitable location.

Train Graveyard is a dungeon where the player can find items by inspecting the large drums and use the insides of train cars as pathways to different sections. There are also mechanisms in place to move the cars to open new paths. The player can steal a good new weapon for Aeris from a monster called Eligor here.

Train Graveyard

South portion.

The Train Graveyard is divided into two screens: the south segment that is entered through a manhole from the Sewer field map, and the north segment adjacent to the Sector 7 Slums train station. The trains in the south switchyard are entirely immobile, and Cloud must run through the trains to reach the north switchyard.

In the north switchyard, a few trains have some power remaining, allowing them to form bridges and create a path from east to west to reach the station.

Quests[]

The Train Graveyard is visited during "Prevent the Fall of the Plate", in which Cloud, Aeris, and Tifa must navigate through to reach Sector 7.

Encounters Areas
North (before Aps is fought)
South
North (after Aps is fought)

The northern segment Train Graveyard can be visited before Aps is fought in the sewers, and the same enemies are fought as those from No. 1 Reactor. As such, they are easy to defeat.

Upon returning for "Prevent the Fall of the Plate", the Cripshay, Deenglow, and Ghost are fought in the southern segment, and the Eligor can be fought in the northern segment. Deenglow absorbs Ice while Ghost resists it, meaning Ice spells should not be cast; however, Ghost is weak to Fire, and vulnerable to magic. Ghosts will disappear after being hit before reappearing later, meaning it is best to quickly finish them by casting Fire rather than use physical attacks. With the exception of Eligor, all enemies have 100 HP and deal moderate damage, meaning most other enemies will be defeated in a few physical hits by Cloud and Tifa, though Aeris benefits more from casting spells.

Eligor is the most challenging encounter, having higher HP, and will inflict Sleep and Silence respectively. Though these can prolong the fight greatly, its HP attacks are fairly weak, meaning the player should be able to defeat it eventually.

Items[]

The player can receive items by inspecting the oil drums or picking them up off the floor and must move some trains to proceed.

The Train Graveyard is the only place a player can acquire a Ghost Hand (an item which drains MP) by stealing it from the Ghosts. It is also possible to steal a powerful weapon, the Striking Staff, for Aeris from Eligor.

Musical themes[]

The background music of the Train Graveyard is "Anxiety" (不安な心, Fuan na Kokoro?, lit. Anxious Heart).
