Torama is an enemy in Final Fantasy VIII fought on the Great Plains of Esthar after the Lunar Cry. It is a leopard-like monster who has two stances and its attacks depend on its current stance.

Battle[]

Torama uses Level 5 Death from FFVIII Remastered — Level 5 Death.

A leopard-like creature with tentacles instead of whiskers, Torama uses magic attacks at first, but becomes aggressive when low in HP. It can be a dangerous enemy when the party is at level 100 because they often start battles with Lv5 Death, ending the game instantly if the party has no Death resistance.

Strategy[]

Summoning Carbuncle protects the party from most of Torama's attacks, apart from Meteor.

Triple Triad[]

Torama is a Level 4 Monster Card in Triple Triad used for playing the minigame and for turning into Life Rings with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Refining the Life Rings is an early way to amass Life spells.

The Torama, localized as the Coeurl, appears as an enemy encountered during the "Lunatic Pandora," "Lunatic Pandora - Exploration," and "Ruled by Hatred" Final Fantasy VIII events, as well as the Chamber of Blue Magic for Quistis, though it uses the same sprite as the Werepanther rather than one adapted from the VIII enemy.

Etymology[]

In the Japanese version this enemy is called Coeurl. [view · edit · purge]The coeurl is a fictional alien race created by science-fiction writer A. E. van Vogt. Coeurls also appear in other fantastical environments, such as in Dungeons & Dragons (as "Displacer Beasts"). Coeurls are generally described to be feline with longer forelimbs and tentacles.
