A giant tonberry that lives in a remote part of the Corel Desert. Its elegant and noble appearance has earned it the title of “king” - as well as the gorgeous crown now adorning its head. It approaches its targets majestically, brandishing its knife and lantern with fittingly royal flair.

Enemy Intel

Tonberry King is an optional boss in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that can be fought in the Corel Region as part of a sidequest for Johnny. The quest becomes available after finishing the story events at Costa del Sol, but the king is only fought from chapter 9 onwards after the party has the buggy. Chadley will uncover its location on the map during the course of collating world intel for him: on the ruined arena in southeast of the Corel desert region. The fight can be re-fought.

Stats[]

Battle[]

The aim is to steal the king's Pristine Crown; the Marred Crown in drops is of lesser value. When the king is being pressured, his crown falls off his head. The player must then nab the fallen crown off the floor with the Steal command (not Mug). The king summons minions and drops junk from the sky, and uses instant death attacks.

Strategy[]

Wearing a Safety Bit or a Warding Materia linked to a Subversion Materia protects against instant death. The robe the king has as spoils can also be transmuted into an instant death-protection accessory.
