Tonberry is an enemy in Final Fantasy X-2 found in Mushroom Rock Road. It is generally unadvisable to fight it in Chapters 1 and 2 because the party is fairly weak to take down an enemy with 9,999 HP (39,996 in Oversoul). Tonberries are also found wandering the halls of Via Infinito.

Battle[]
Tonberry is a special enemy in Via Infinito. They can be found on any floor, but never in a random encounter. They wander the halls, and if the player comes in contact with one a battle ensues. Sometimes, fighting a Tonberry is required to complete the floor, and occasionally, fighting one will teleport the player closer to the exit.
The player can find a regular Tonberry with a tiny Tonberry standing beside it. If the player talks to this duo they get a free item.
In battle, Tonberries use Chef's Knife on the character furthest away from them, which deal 105~118 HP of base damage before Defense, Protect, and the Cheer Meter are taken into account.
The player should be careful if a Tonberry gets Oversouled, because it has almost forty thousand health points. In addition, its behavior changes: it has a 2/3 chance of using Chef's Knife on the character furthest away from it, and can also use Sleep or Bio on a character or Fira on all characters; these three abilities all have an equal 1/9 chance of being used.
Strategy[]
The party should be equipped with strong dresspheres, such as the Warrior, so they can do a lot of damage quickly. They should hit it hard and fast with their strongest attacks. If the party has a Cat Nip, one shot from someone in HP Critical health will kill it.
Creature Creator[]
The Tonberry is available for capture anytime during the game with a Trap pod S in either Mushroom Rock Road or Luca. It is a very useful and powerful fiend at any stage, especially in Chapters 1 and 2, as it comes with Ailment Def. (blocks all negative status effects) and Deathtouch, also making it useful for quickly disposing of enemies.
An ideal setup for the Tonberry involves it using the Thief dressphere, the Unerring Path Garment Grid (obtained by talking to Tromell four times in Macalania Woods in Chapters 1 or 2), Adamantite (obtained by completing Machina Panzer's fiend tale), and any Strength-increasing accessory, as well as the abilities Vigor, Darkness (can later be replaced with either Fireworks, Flare, Ultima, Meteor, or Black Sky), and either Life or Full-Life.
Fiend Tale[]
A notable Tonberry reveals much about his kind being rare fiends who are often left alone by other fiends despite having a short life span. This is due to Tonberries having a nasty habit of inexplicably stabbing each other, ultimately becoming their own worst enemy when they are gathered in one area. The stabbing fights anger their leader, a Mega Tonberry, forcing him to intervene.
