Oh, shut up and help me remodel the Tonberry (Final Fantasy VIII enemy) page!
- adding information regarding whether kills in Ultimecia Castle count for kills toward Tonberry King and whether the Tonberry King can appear within Ultimecia Castle.

Template:FFVIII Enemy Template:See Also The Tonberry is an enemy in Final Fantasy VIII encountered in the Centra Ruins and in Ultimecia Castle. After defeating approximately 18-24 Tonberries (random, determined on each new game), a battle against the Tonberry King initiates. Defeating the King will grant the player the Tonberry GF.
The player can leave the ruins and the count will not revert to zero.
Stats
Template:FFVIII Enemy Stats
Battle
Tonberries will counter most attacks with Everyone's Grudge, an attack which deals HP damage calculated by the number of enemies the character has killed multiplied by 20. When it walks forward at least five times, the Tonberry will randomly attack a party member with its knife or it might fall over, losing a turn. They are immune to Selphie's Rapture.
Tonberry is one of the few monsters in the game (which is not a boss) that is unaffected by Quistis's Degenerator Limit Break and Odin's Zantetsuken. The others are Grat, Vysage, Lefty, Righty and Cactuar.
Strategy
As the Tonberry's HP and defense are formidable, one may consider using Demi or the summon Diablos, as it is not immune to the Gravity element. Doomtrain or Meltdown can cast Vit 0 on the Tonberry to knock down its defense and make it easier to defeat. Other defense ignoring attacks include Quistis's Micro Missiles and Irvine's Shot using AP Ammo. Keeping Irvine in low health and using his Limit Break is one of the fastest ways to amass the required kills to summon Tonberry King.
Mugging Chef's Knives is a quick and easy way to obtain 100 Deaths for every character as one refines into 30 Deaths with Siren's L-Mag refine. The Deaths can be junctioned to stats or to status attack which will result in instant death for the majority of non-boss enemies, and even for Propagators. Chef's Knives also refine into AP Ammo, useful for using the low-health Irvine tactic against them.
