Toad is an indirect magic spell in Final Fantasy VII. It is granted by the Transform Materia at level two. It either inflicts or removes the Frog status effect from a target, which locks all abilities except for Attack and Item, and reduces their damage to a quarter.

Toad can be used by characters with the Transform Materia at level 2. It inflicts the Frog status on a target without it, or removes Frog from a target with it. The Frog status effect locks away all abilities aside from Attack and Items, and reduces their damage to a quarter. Frog has a probability of 72% when cast on enemies, but a 100% probability when cast on allies, meaning that it is guaranteed to work when curing allies.

Frog can render enemies near-harmless for a small MP cost. Its main drawback is that it is not guaranteed to work, and most larger enemies are immune to the status entirely. The spell is made redundant by the Frog Song spell from the Enemy Skill Materia, which inflicts both Frog and Sleep for almost a third the MP cost. Another alternative is the Enemy Skill Bad Breath, which inflicts many status effects. The item Impaler can also inflict the status, while the item Maiden's Kiss can remove it.

Toad can be cast by Jemnezmy as a counterattack on an opponent that is a frog.
