Inflicts toad on target or restores state.

Description

Toad is a Black Magic spell in Final Fantasy V. It either inflicts the toad status effect on a target without it, or removes it from a target with. The spell can be used on one target or cast on an entire party, and is usable by the Black Magic and Red Magic skillsets (and can be used twice with Dualcast), and is one of the spells that can be cast from the Wonder Wand for free. Toad is similar to the Blue Magic spell Pond's Chorus, but differs in being able to be group-cast and to cure toad.

Toad is also an enemy ability that can be used by Apanda, Byblos, Flaremancer, Garula as a boss, Omniscient, and Sorcerer.

Toad can be found at Istory for free. If missed, it must be purchased from Phantom Village much later in the game, but for only 300 gil.

Use[]

The toad status greatly reduces a target's physical damage and prevents them from casting spells. It can be crippling to an enemy, but also to an ally, making it valuable to have the Toad spell to cure the status. It is also effective against enemies, but most larger enemies are immune to the effect.

If the player wishes to inflict toad on an enemy, and has the Blue Magic skillset, it is better to use Pond's Chorus as it is more MP-efficient than casting Toad, and can also ignore reflect. In other cases, Toad is the better spell.
