The struggles of the frail and feeble end in loss. Better your lives' waters quicken the seeds of new.

Titan is a fal'Cie who appears in Final Fantasy XIII. Presiding over Gran Pulse, he tests Lightning and her allies through a series of missions. His job is to oversee the Gran Pulse ecosystem and encourage the creation of ever stronger monsters. Though the purpose for this is not explicitly stated, it is known that fearsome beasts are sealed in Arks in wait for Bhunivelze's great war against Mwynn.

Titan is a massive, humanoid fal'Cie with a black, biomechanical body covered in glowing, orange lines. Vegetation grows from his shoulders and legs. He towers over the landscape, moving slowly and deliberately. He is dwarfed only by the fal'Cie Fenrir. Like the other Pulse fal'Cie, Titan is unconcerned about what goes on in the world that does not affect his role as the biogenitor. He is one of the few fal'Cie to speak to the party.

This colossal fal'Cie is said to be the guardian of Gran Pulse's entire ecosystem. A biogenitor, Titan consumes weaker species and gives birth to new ones, thereby providing the stimulation needed to prevent ecological stagnation.

Unlike many other Gran Pulse fal'Cie, Titan does not involve himself directly with tasks of terrestrial manipulation. However, it is possible that he performs more subtle alterations of the landscape through the adjustment of biological cycles and the introduction of new, environmentally impacting species.

Titan, congratulating Lightning and her allies for completing his Trials

Lightning and her comrades encounter Titan in the Faultwarrens. Fang identifies the enormous fal'Cie as a biogenitor who "chews up one species and spits out another." When Titan notices the l'Cie standing before him, he claims they are weak and opens the path to his Trials. By clearing these challenges, the party earns Titan's respect.

A thousand years later in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Titan's remains appear in the Dead Dunes on Nova Chrysalia. His left hand marks the entrance to the Temple Ruins located beneath the desert, and the upper portion of his face is visible above the sand in The Giant's Head.

Titan's Trials[]

Titan's Trials.

From the Faultwarrens, Titan maintains Gran Pulse's ecosystem. He pits beasts against one another to cultivate stronger species. When Lightning and her allies take Titan's Trials, the fal'Cie forces them to fight powerful monsters.

Passing all of Titan's Trials unlocks the Natural Selector achievement.

When Lightning and her friends begin A-Ranked missions on the Archylte Steppe, Titan also covers the plains in smoke to restrict their vision.

Behind the scenes[]

Titan does not appear as a boss in Final Fantasy XIII due to his immense size. In Final Fantasy XIII-2 Atlas appears as a boss, a giant war machine that, physically, is almost identical to Titan.

A Brain Blast quiz in Final Fantasy XIII-2 states the length of Titan's arm determines the altitude of flights from Cocoon to Gran Pulse.

Titan's voice actors are unknown. He is one of the few fal'Cie to have a speaking role in Final Fantasy XIII.

Titans were members of the second order of divine beings in Greek mythology. They were descendants of the primordial deities born from the Chaos, and they preceded the gods of Olympus, who went on to overthrow them.
