Description

Time materia is a Magic Materia Magic Materia in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that provides time-based spells. The spells in particular are Haste Haste, Slow Slow, and Stop Stop. Of these, Haste increases the speed at which the target's ATB gauge fills, while Slow reduces it, and Stop will freeze a target entirely, preventing them acting and also prolonging any stagger they are under.

Time materia can also be linked with Warding Materia Warding Materia to provide resistance to the Slow Slow and Stop Stop status effects.

Obtained[]

Time materia is earliest obtained as the top reward of the shooter minigame, Pirate's Rampage, in Costa del Sol in chapter 6, "Fool's Paradise". The player needs at least 15,000 points to win it.

Time materia are sold in shops that sell materia for 5000 gil apiece from Cosmo Canyon onward.

A level 2 time materia is rewarded for completing "Nibel Region Intel: Level 1" in Chadley's combat simulator, unlocked for battling 20 enemies in the Nibel Region.

Use[]

Time materia grants Haste at level 1, Slow at level 2, and Stop at level 3. Haste provides a positive effect aimed for allies, granting the Haste Haste effect that increases the rate their ATB gauge builds. The others apply negative statuses that target enemies.

Haste can be a very potent way of boosting a party member's output in battle. Slow is an inexpensive status that can harm an enemy for its duration. Stop is more expensive but can cripple an enemy, as well as prolong an enemy's stagger. Many higher-level enemies are not actually immune to Slow or Stop, making them very effective.

The time materia also provides solid attribute bonuses that help spellcasters. Beyond that, none of its spells are affected by the caster's attributes, meaning that the materia can be beneficial to anyone who has the MP pool that is capable of casting it.

The materia can be paired with a number of Support Materia Support Materia. Warding materia is a standout pairing, providing resistance to slow and stop, both statuses that can harm or cripple a party member in battle, making it a useful pairing as an alternative to accessories that provide this resistance. Another strong pairing is Magnify Materia Magnify Materia, which both allows the user to cast Haste on the entire party, but also allows them to cast Slow and Stop on all enemies. Though magnify is a rare materia, this can be one of its better uses, making this an effective pairing. Beyond this, Magic Focus Materia Magic Focus Materia can increase the length of the status durations, and Magic Efficiency Materia Magic Efficiency Materia can reduce their MP costs, though these are less efficient pairings.
