An optimistic woman proficient in hand-to-hand combat. Contrary to her rough-and-tumble appearance, she often encourages her friends.
Description
Tifa Lockhart is the third representative of Final Fantasy VII and a Warrior of Cosmos in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy. She was a childhood friend of Cloud, and she worked alongside the resistance group AVALANCHE to bring down Shinra. When her father's killer, Sephiroth, resurfaced, she worked along with Cloud and their friends to fight him and save the Planet. When she was summoned to the wars of World B, her memory was erased, and knowledge of Cloud was taken from her. She keeps her hopes and dreams alive while confronting the forces of Chaos.
In the story mode, her main rival is Ultimecia.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Tifa's design is identical to her original Final Fantasy VII appearance. She wears a sleeveless white tank top, a black miniskirt and a pair of black suspenders connected to her belt, fingerless gloves with metal protecting pads up to her elbows and red boots. Tifa's long, dark brown hair falls below her waist and is tied at the end in a distinctive dolphin-tail split. She has maroon eyes.
Tifa's first alternate outfit, Leather Suit, is based on her black outfit in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. It's composed of mostly black leather, a white tank-top under a black vest with a zipper going up the center. She wears dark boots and her hair is shorter, reaching mid-back. A small pink ribbon is wrapped around her left bicep in memory of Aerith Gainsborough.
Tifa's second alternate outfit, Nibelheim Guide, is her Nibelheim guide cowgirl outfit from the Nibelheim flashbacks in Final Fantasy VII and Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. She wears a tan leather skirt and a mini vest of the same color and fabric. She has a white and gray sleeveless button shirt and a black leather belt with a turquoise gemstone on the buckle. She wears brown cowboy boots and a cowboy hat with a strap over her back.
Tifa's DLC outfit, The Enforcer, is available with the Legacy Edition of Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy or by a code obtained through having pre-ordered the game from Amazon. It is based on Yoshitaka Amano's artwork of her. Tifa has a red strap running across her torso and the back of her shirt is bare, held up with crossing straps. Rather than being blonde like in the art, the outfit retains her brunette hair as in the Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring Amano-inspired costume.
Tifa's manikin, Imaginary Brawler, is light blue.
Equipment[]
Tifa does not have a set base weapon; in each of her outfits her gloves are based on what she wore in the design they are based on, or in the case of her second alt outfit, she wears no gloves. Her default outfit's gloves are identified as the Leather Gloves in Dissidia NT, but in both games they are based on her Tetsuya Nomura concept art for Final Fantasy VII rather than the Final Fantasy VII weapon, which is colored differently and lacks the orbs on the back of the hand. Tifa's EX Mode weapon is the Premium Heart, which is based on its Final Fantasy VII design. In all of her outfits she wears the Premium Hearts over her normal gloves. The gloves bear the Kingdom Hearts logo on them, a pair of swirls that form a stylized heart.
Personality[]
What matters to me now—what I've missed—is the feeling that I'm not alone. So no matter how scary things might get—I know that everything will be all right.
Tifa
Tifa is kind, tender and caring, and acts as an emotional support for the party. She acts in a supporting role, supplementing Kain's character. Typical themes, such as her tendency to keep thoughts locked away and her emotional and physical strength, are not present in her story appearance.
In battle, Tifa's lines are more representative of her overall personality from her main appearances, ranging from confident and cheeky to shy yet optimistic. She snarks her opponent when she is confident, and calls upon the help of others when less so.
Story[]
12th cycle[]
Tifa is new to the cycles of war. Early in the cycle she is confronted by Sephiroth whom she doesn't recognize. Sephiroth states that he is her enemy, and nothing more. They do battle, and Sephiroth has Tifa at sword point until Cloud arrives and drives him away. Tifa, with no memory of Cloud, asks if they once knew each other. Cloud responds no, but warns her that he is a warrior of Chaos, and the next time they meet they would be enemies.
Sometime later, Tifa talks to Vaan, Laguna and Yuna as they try to find the way back to Cosmos's sanctuary. Later on after receiving Cosmos's power, she travels with them and Lightning before they become separated when attacked by Kuja and Kefka.
During her travels Tifa fights Ultimecia, but Kain intervenes. Before Ultimecia disappears, she warns Tifa of Kain's intentions, pointing to an unconscious Zidane. Before Tifa can aid Zidane, Kain grabs him and leaves, leaving Tifa to wonder what is going on. She finds Kain injured, and heals him with her last potion, claiming that she trusts him. After Kain reveals what he knows about the cycles of war, Tifa wants to continue fighting, refusing to let herself rest and wait for the next cycle, wanting to protect her friends. Kain warns her that she may not survive, but Tifa does not change her mind.
Tifa and Kain reunite with Lightning, Vaan, Laguna, and Yuna who set out to destroy the door to the Rift where the manikins are emerging. When the six reach Orphan's Cradle Tifa is amazed to see Vaan cool and collective, despite knowing what they are walking into, and admits that perhaps there is something to look forward to. They are confronted by Exdeath, who was stalling for time to let the manikins come. Tifa leaves with most of the group so Kain can hold off Exdeath, and the manikins pursue them.
At the Empyreal Paradox, Tifa and her remaining allies fight against Garland, the Emperor, the Cloud of Darkness, Kefka and Ultimecia, with Tifa battling Ultimecia again. After they win the villains flee, having bought enough time for the manikins to come. Kain joins the others and the six fight a horde of manikins and close the door to the Rift. Severely outnumbered, the group falls in battle. When Shinryu arrives and purifies Cosmos's warriors for the next cycle of conflict, Tifa and her group are not purified, having lost their power. The Warrior of Light watches as the six fade away.
Confessions of the Creator[]
After the player defeats the Chasm in the Rotting Land gateway and is directed to the Southern Lufenia gateway, Tifa can be found wandering near the Elvan Snowfields teleport stone, provided she is not currently in the player's party. When spoken to she vanishes and warns "everything is going to disappear". As the world of Confessions of the Creator is a hypothetical nightmare world where the cycles of war kept going and Feral Chaos killed all summoned warriors, this Tifa is likely a specter of the Tifa of this alternate world, and her words foreshadow the dream world vanishing when Feral Chaos is defeated. Tifa can no longer be found after the player conquers the Southern Lufenia gateway.
Gameplay[]
Tifa is a Feint Brawler. Pressing while attacking causes Tifa to cancel her attack and teleport, allowing her to quickly close in on enemies or attack them from a different direction. Each attack has a different timing on when the feint can be executed, and the player can slightly delay when the attack continues out of the feint. This makes Tifa difficult to master, but she is effective at faking out her opponent and tricking them into blocking or dodging the incoming attack, while Tifa uses a feint to delay the attack and strikes as they recover. She has some magic attacks that fill different tactical purposes and can set opponents up for combos. A downside is that her magic attacks are easily blocked and she is overall a melee fighter. Additionally, while she can use her feints to trip up an opponent's attempts to defend, it is still possible for them to block and/or dodge again if they are quick enough.
Boss[]
Tifa is fought in Report 5, Side Story: Unexpected Fulfillment -1-. The player is required to use Sephiroth for the battle.

EX Mode[]
Tifa's EX Mode is Equipped Premium Heart, which equips the Premium Heart gloves, her ultimate weapon from Final Fantasy VII. The EX Mode ability "Premium Heart" increases Tifa's attack power proportional to how much EX Force she has left, meaning the weapon works the same way as in Final Fantasy VII, where Tifa does more damage the fuller her Limit meter is.
Tifa's EX Burst is Final Heaven, her best Limit Break from Final Fantasy VII, which means all seven slots are available. Players must hit to stop the reels. The slots will have "Yeah!", "Hit", and "Miss". Once the reels have stopped, Tifa attacks seven times: Yeah! will use a punch attack; Hit results in a weak kick; and Miss will do nothing. After the seven hit sequence Tifa finishes with Final Heaven, where she charges energy into her fist, then dashes through the opponent delivering an explosive punch. If the player does not arrange the slots, it will result in one Yeah! and six miss, and the timing can be tricky, making Final Heaven powerful but difficult to master manually.
Equipment[]
Tifa can equip Rods, Staves, Grappling Weapons, Poles, Parrying Weapons, Bangles, Gauntlets, Hats, Hairpins, Clothing, Light Armor, and Chestplates.

Behind the scenes[]
Director Mitsunori Takahashi had once said in an interview that if Tifa had not been included in Dissidia 012, he would not have made the game.[1]
Allusions[]
- Like Cloud while executing his EX Burst, Tifa declares she's "breaking [her] limits", alluding to the term "Limit Break". The way Tifa's EX Burst is initiated using the slot reels "Yeah", "Hit" and "Miss" mirrors the way it is initialized in Final Fantasy VII. Upon finishing her EX Burst, Tifa poses like in her official artwork for Final Fantasy VII.
- Tifa's Premium Heart gloves have the heart insignia from the Kingdom Hearts logo on them.
- While fighting Terra, Tifa says "Don't rush to find answers, okay?" This paraphrases what she says to Cloud while helping him regain his memories in Final Fantasy VII.
- Before Cloud joins the fight between Sephiroth and Tifa, Sephiroth points his sword at Tifa in a fashion to when she intervened in Sephiroth and Cloud's battle in Kingdom Hearts II.
- Tifa's line "I'll show you Zangan's secret technique!" refers to her teacher, Zangan.
- "Someone say, 'It's gonna be ok!'" refers to her wanting Cloud to tell her that everything would be all right on the way to their final battle in Final Fantasy VII.
- Tifa's ultimate weapon, the Seventh Heaven, is named after her bar, 7th Heaven, from Final Fantasy VII, while Godhand and Premium Heart are weapons she can acquire.
- When Cloud saves Tifa, she comments that Cloud was "like a hero, charging in to save the girl," which is what Cloud promised he would do when he left to join SOLDIER.
- Tifa's Blizzard spells form a vaguely star-shaped cluster of ice spikes similar to how the spell is animated in Final Fantasy VII.
- Tifa is the main character for 7th chapter of "Treachery of the Gods" storyline, referencing Final Fantasy VII.
- Tifa's secret voice data in which she says, "Words aren't the only way to convey your feelings", is what she said to Cloud at the end of Part II in Final Fantasy VII. After purchasing the secret voice data, she sometimes says it at the end of her EX Burst.
- There are several references to her fight with Loz in Final Fantasy VII Advent Children:
- Rolling Blaze is taken from the move where Tifa slams Loz against the floor.
- Moonsault Kick is also taken from the fight scene.
- When starting her EX Burst, Tifa rebounds from the back "wall" and kicks at the opponent in a flurry of flower petals.
- Although not in her repertoire of attacks, the deathblow Tifa delivers against Ultimecia's manikin is similar to one from the fight scene.
- When Tifa performs a Feint Attack, green electricity can be seen, similar to the electricity that appeared on her hand while fighting Loz in Advent Children. The feints are similar to Loz's rapid movement ability.
- When using Falcon Dive, Tifa takes the form of the meteor from the logo of Final Fantasy VII.
- Tifa's unique item, the Stretch Boxer, may refer to the Orthopedic Underwear players can find in Tifa's house during the Nibelheim flashback.
