Template:Dissidia 012 Character

An optimistic woman proficient in hand-to-hand combat. Contrary to her rough-and-tumble appearance, she often encourages her friends.

Description

Tifa Lockhart has been confirmed as the third representative for Final Fantasy VII in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.

Appearance

Tifa's design is identical to her original Final Fantasy VII appearance. She wears a sleeveless white midriff tank top with a black miniskirt and a pair of black suspenders connected to her belt. She wears fingerless Leather Gloves, with metal protecting pads over black gloves up to her elbows and she wears red boots. Tifa's long, dark brown hair falls below her waist and is tied at the end in a distinctive dolphin-tail split, and she has maroon eyes.

Tifa's first alternate outfit "Leather Suit" is based on her black outfit in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. It's composed of mostly black leather, a white tank-top under a black vest with a zipper going up the center. She also wears dark boots, and her hair is shorter and stops mid-back. A small pink ribbon is wrapped around her left bicep in memory of her deceased friend Aerith Gainsborough.

Tifa's second alternate outfit, "Nibelheim Guide", is her Nibelheim Guide cowgirl outfit as seen in Final Fantasy VII's Nibelheim flashbacks and Crisis Core. The outfit is comprised of a tan leather skirt and a mini vest of the same color and fabric. She has a white and gray sleeveless button shirt under the vest, and wears a black leather belt with a turquoise gemstone on the buckle. She wears brown cowboy boots and a cowboy hat with a strap over her back.

Tifa has a DLC outfit available with the Special Edition of Dissidia 012[1] [2] or by a code obtained through pre-ordering the game from amazon.com[3]. It is based on Yoshitaka Amano's artwork of her, giving Tifa red gloves, boots, a skirt, and a single red suspender running across her torso. The back of her shirt is also bare, held up with crossing straps. This outfit is known as "The Enforcer."

Tifa's Manikin, Imaginary Brawler, is light blue.

Story

Template:Spoilers In the beginning, Tifa talks to Vaan, Laguna and Yuna. Later on, she travels with the two men and Lightning before they separate when attacked by Kuja and Kefka.

During her travels, she encounters and fights Ultimecia, with the latter presumably intending to kill her. But Kain quickly intervenes and protects her. As Ultimecia disappears, Kain leaves with an unconscious Zidane. Later on Tifa finds Kain badly injured and heals him with a potion, claiming that she can trust him.

Sometime later, Tifa is confronted by Sephiroth, and she is unaware of who he is. Sephiroth states he is her enemy and nothing more. The two of them fight until Cloud shows up and protects Tifa. After Sephiroth departs, Tifa asks Cloud if they have met before, with the latter stating that they haven't. He then asks her to leave, before he changes his mind about not fighting her, despite being a Warrior of Chaos himself. Tifa comments that he's a strange Warrior of Chaos. In some more scenes, she is seen talking to Vaan, Laguna and Yuna.

Spoilers end here.

Battle

Template:See Also Tifa is described as a Feint Brawler. By pressing X-button while attacking Tifa will cancel her current attack and move behind the enemy, allowing her to attack them again by surprise. Each attack has a different timing for inputting the feint, and feinting when far away will cause Tifa to dash toward the opponent instead. The attack performed after a feint will have less reach than the initial attack. She is able to use her Limit Breaks from Final Fantasy VII as attacks.

EX Mode

Final Heaven
Tifa's EX Mode. In this render she takes the pose in her Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary render.

Tifa's EX Mode is Equipped Premium Heart, which transforms the Leather Gloves into the Premium Heart gloves, her ultimate weapon in Final Fantasy VII. Tifa's EX Mode gives her the ability "Premium Heart" which increases Tifa's attack power the more EX Force she has, the same way the weapon works in Final Fantasy VII, where Tifa does more damage the fuller her Limit meter was.

Tifa's EX Burst is Final Heaven, her final Limit Break from Final Fantasy VII. To charge it to its maximum strength the player must spin seven slot reels with "Yeah!" "Miss" and "Hit." Landing "Yeah!" on the reels results in a punch attack, while "Hit" causes a weaker kick attack. "Miss" means no damage is done. When all seven reels are stopped, Tifa performs the proper amount of attacks depending on their results before ending the EX Burst with Final Heaven, charging energy into her fist and dashing past the opponent to deliver an explosive punch.

Equipment

Tifa can equip Rods, Staves, Grappling, Poles, Parrying, Bangles, Gauntlets, Hats, Hairpins, Clothing, Breast Plates, and Light Armor.

Allusions

  • When starting her EX Burst, Tifa rebounds from the back 'wall' and flies at the opponent in a flurry of flower petals. This is the same move she used against Loz in their battle in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
  • Like Cloud while executing his EX Burst, Tifa declares she's "breaking [her] limits," a clear reference to the term "Limit Break". The way in which Tifa's EX Burst is initiated using the slot reels "Yeah", "Hit" and "Miss" mirrors the way it is initialized in Final Fantasy VII. Upon finishing her EX Burst, Tifa poses in front of the camera like in her official artwork in Final Fantasy VII.
  • Tifa's Premium Heart gloves have the heart insignia from the Kingdom Hearts logo on them.
  • While fighting Terra, Tifa says "Don't rush to find answers, okay?" This is a paraphrase of what she says to Cloud while helping him regain his memories in the original Final Fantasy VII.
  • Before Cloud joins the fight between Sephiroth and Tifa, Sephiroth points his sword directly at Tifa, in a similar fashion to when she intervened in Sephiroth and Cloud's battle in Kingdom Hearts II.
  • Tifa's encounter quote "I'll show you Zangan's secret technique!" is a reference to her teacher, Zangan.
  • Tifa's encounter quote "Mock me, and I'll smash em" is a reference to when she threatens Don Corneo in Final Fantasy VII.

Trivia

  • Director Mitsunori Takahashi had once said in an interview that if Tifa had not been included in Dissidia 012, he would not have made the game.[4]
  • As Cloud focuses on Fire spells and their upgrades, Tifa uses Blizzard-type magic in battle.
  • For her Third Form intro, the sound effect of her securing her gloves still plays, despite the lack thereof on the model.
