Sergeant Tiamat, real name unknown, is a character in Final Fantasy XVI. He is the leader of the Bastards, a group of Bearers tasked with dangerous missions comprised of himself, Aevis, Biast and Wyvern.
History[]
The man who is known as Tiamat was rumored to have been born into a noble family of Sanbreque, but was abandoned after his powers awoke. His real name is unknown. Tiamat either joined or was forced to join the Imperial army where he became the leader of a group of Branded assassins known as the Bastards. At some point during the 13 years after Sanbreque conquered Rosaria, Tiamat took an enslaved Clive in from the front lines and gave him the call sign "Wyvern", trained him and made him part of the Bastards.
During the Battle of Nysa between Dhalmekia and the Iron Kingdom, the Bastards were ordered to wait on the sidelines for their moment to slay the Dominant of Shiva, who unbeknownst to Clive was Jill Warrick. The situation goes bad when Titan joins the battle, destroying the mountains the Bastards were waiting on resulting in the death of Biast. After fleeing they come upon the Iron Kingdom troops with Jill and attack. Clive beats Jill into submission but hesitates after recognizing her despite Tiamat's orders, resulting in the death of Aevis. Clive and Tiamat fend off some Iron Kingdom troops before turning on each other when Clive refuses to kill Jill, resulting in Clive killing Tiamat.
