Tiamat is a Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Tiamat is the seventy-third card in the inventory and the seventh Level 7 card. It depicts Tiamat, a boss fought in the final dungeon to unlock one of the party's sealed abilities. Tiamat is a good card to collect for card modding.
Tiamat has strong values with two 8s, which makes it a good card to place in a corner as NPC card players rarely play cards that can beat an 8 without special rules. Its value placements may also be useful for games that use Same and/or Plus.
Obtain[]
There is a 6.3% chance to get a Tiamat card when successfully using the Card command on Hexadragon or Grendel.
Any AI Triple Triad player who uses Level 7 cards has a chance of using Tiamat in a play, from where the player can win it in a card match. One such card player is CC Heart of the Card Club. In the end of the game, all CC members besides Jack and Club will play with Level 7 cards when aboard the Ragnarok if the player completed the CC quest before the point of no return.
Card Mod[]
A Tiamat card refines into ten Flare Stones with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. Flare is a top tier spell and can be made from the stones with Ifrit's F Mag-RF, allowing the player to farm for it early if desired. Tiamat is a good card to collect for both playing the minigame and for card modding.
Physical version[]
In 1999, following the release of Final Fantasy VIII in Japan, Bandai produced a full set of collectible Triple Triad cards in Final Fantasy VIII Carddass Masters Perfect Visuals. The set was made up of the 110 cards as seen in the game along with 72 artwork cards and a collector's edition playing mat. The cards have a blue side and a red side. The cards have become a rare collector's item.
