The Thunder Dragon (らいりゅう, Rairyu?, lit. Thunder Dragon), also known as the Clapper, is an enemy in the Final Fantasy series.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy IV[]

The Thunder Dragon is an enemy encountered in the Passage of the Eidolons, the Cave of Trials, and the Lunar Ruins. It is not a very powerful enemy, but it can hit a party member with Blitz, which will take off about one tenth of their max HP each hit. In the 3D version, it may drop a Blue Tail that can be given to the man in Adamant Isle Grotto, in exchange for the Onion Shield.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]

The Thunder Dragon can be encountered in Mist Cave, Kain's Challenge Dungeon, and the Subterrane. It is a dangerous foe early on, but by the Subterrane they should not pose too much of a threat and can be easily defeated.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

The Thunder Dragon (サンダードラゴン, Sandādoragon?) is an enemy encountered in The Dravanian Forelands The Dravanian Forelands. It can be found in the Sohm Al Foothills area, accessible only by flight or a long climb up Sohm Al, and is higher level than most other enemies in the region. It can also be encountered in the FATE Come to My Arms Come to My Arms.

Etymology[]

Thunder is the sound caused by lightning. Depending on the distance and nature of the lightning, thunder can range from a sharp, loud crack to a long, low rumble (brontide).

A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, which is featured in the myths of many cultures.
