Thunder magic damage/one enemy

Description

Thunder is an attack magic spell in Final Fantasy VIII. It is the basic Thunder-elemental spell below Thundara and Thundaga, allowing it to be junctioned to resist or deal Thunder damage in battle, or cast as a spell.

When Magic Booster is used in the 2013 PC re-release, the player's inventory gains 100 Fire spells, among other basic spells.

Obtained[]

Thunder is a basic and common spell that can be drawn from multiple enemies (drawing it always succeeds) and draw points. The Guardian Force Quezacotl allows Thunder magic to be as well as refined from M-Stone Pieces using T Mag-RF. At the beginning of the game, the party can draw Thunders from the Buels in the Fire Cavern.

Stats[]

Use[]

Thunder has a spell power of 18 when cast, meaning its damage is calculated as:

[1]

It is cast as a spell in the Magic command, Selphie's Slot Limit Break, or Rinoa's Angel Wing if she has it in her inventory.

Casting Thunder in battle increases compatibility with Quezacotl by 1, but lowers compatibility with Leviathan by 0.4 and with Eden by 0.2.

Prior to obtaining Thundara and Thundaga, Thunder is a useful spell to junction against enemies weak to Thunder (such as X-ATM092), or to resist against enemies with Thunder attacks. Early on, it is also useful for junctioning to boost Strength and deal more damage. Later, Thunder is best refined into Thundara using Mid Mag-RF, as it is quickly outclassed.

Thunder is used against the player party by the following enemies: Belhelmel, Biggs (1st), Blitz, Buel, Creeps, Elvoret, Grendel, Jelleye, Lefty, Sorceress (A), and Torama. It can be reflected, but is not much of a threat.

Blitz has a special variant of Thunder, which cannot be reflected and assigns a special flag. Blitz only uses it on itself and it causes it to become charged.
