Bracer inhabited by the spirit of a thief. Increases the success rate of the Steal command.

Description

Thief's Bracer, also known as Sneak Ring[1][2] is a relic in Final Fantasy VI. It doubles the success rate of the Steal/Mug command, making it a useful relic for Locke. As Gogo can also use the Steal command, the command can also be used by Gogo.

Betting the Thief's Bracer in the Dragon's Neck Coliseum obtains the Brigand's Glove after winning against an Amduscias.

Obtained[]

Thief's Bracer can be found as treasure in Narshe, bought for 3,000 gil at Tzen, and stolen from Dadaluma and Mugbear.

Mechanics[]

Thief's Bracer doubles the value calculated by the Steal success formula. This applies specifically to whether an item is stolen from a target at all, and does not affect the chance of getting a rare versus a common item. More successful steals still makes it twice as likely to steal a rare item that turn.

Thief's Bracer also applies to the Mug command. Though the Thief's Knife also uses the Steal success formula and can be equipped by Shadow, Shadow cannot equip Thief's Bracer, meaning he cannot benefit from this use case.

Use[]

Thief's Bracer can be a useful relic in certain situations due to the value of certain items that can be stolen. Specifically, the relics Gigas Glove, Dragoon Boots, and Muscle Belts, as well as certain weapons. In these cases, because Locke will otherwise spend much of the battle attempting to steal, Thief's Bracer can make him much more efficient, allowing him to steal the desired item early before then transitioning to attack them.

Thief's Bracer can be paired with Brigand's Glove to provide the Mug command, whose success rate will also be doubled. This can be used effectively in the Dragon's Neck Coliseum with Gogo; by giving Gogo the Brigand's Glove and Thief's Bracer relics, and equipping Mug in all three of Gogo's command slots, Gogo will only use Mug the entire fight, allowing items to be easily stolen this way. In many cases, however, Locke or Gogo may prefer a different relic, such as one that is more defensive, or one such as Genji Glove or Hero's Ring that improve Locke's physical damage for after he successfully steals.

Especially later in the game, due to the shortage of relic slots, it is better to only equip Thief's Bracer when in a battle where he intends to steal, to allow Locke to equip a stronger relic. For instance, Locke benefits greatly from the Genji Glove + Master's Scroll combo, but may prefer to swap Genji Glove for Thief's Bracer when attempting to steal a specific item.
