The Windward Wilds is a Trial Trial from Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, and is the main part of the Final Fantasy XIV x Monster Hunter Wilds collaboration event. It is a battle against the monster Guardian Arkveld.

Story[]

Normal[]

Animal carcasses have been turning up left and right in Shaaloani, with a mysterious mark bill suggesting that a new monster prowls the plains. Tasked with hunting the beast, you set off to meet your client, a stray Felyne, and together with their stalwart Seikret companion, scour the wilds and identify your mark: Guardian Arkveld. Now invigorated by a repast of grilled meat and equipped with potent mega potions, the time is come to end the Guardian's rampage and return peace to the wilds!

Extreme[]

The wandering minstrel sings of a lone Guardian, whose obsession with aether would have invited ruin upon the wildlife of Shaaloani. Had the white wanderer—this beast from beyond—never spent its strength facing Serpentlord Ttokrrone, what power might it have brought to bear against you? The minstrel's musings ignite your imagination, drawing you back to that arduous encounter, now more arduous still...

Extreme[]

In contrast to The Great Hunt (Extreme) The Great Hunt (Extreme), the Extreme version of the fight against the Guardian Arkveld requires a full party with a standard composition of two tanks, two healers, and four DPS. Additionally like in Normal mode, all players will be given ten mega potions that completely restore their health upon use, and will also have the Well-done Steak buff that increases their maximum HP and the amount of HP regained per tick.

Shortly after being pulled, the boss will cast Roar, a magic raidwide; like in the previous collaboration trial, none of the Guardian Arkveld's casts have a cast bar. The boss will begin casting Chainblade Blow, which cleaves two-thirds of the side of the arena where it raises its claws and chains. Once the first cleave goes off, immediately move to the other side and dodge the second Chainblade Blow cleave. After both cleaves resolve, the boss will move south, performing a Wyvern's Siegeflight or Guardian Siegeflight dash back north. During the cast, the line in front of the boss will glow either white or red, depending on what was cast; if the glow was white, then players will need to stay out of the line following the Guardian Siegeflight cast, if it was red, then players will need to get into the line following the Wyvern's Siegeflight cast. At the same time, there will be light party stack markers targeting the healers, though adjusting melees in front and ranged players in the back during Wyvern's Siegeflight may be preferable. The boss will perform another Chainblade Blow combo, then Roar raidwide.

Musical themes[]

The music that plays during the battle is "Radiant Cry of Life" from Monster Hunter Wilds.
