Oh, shut up and help me remodel the The Wily Hunter page!
I couldn't miss the chance to practice my drawing!
Happy New Year: The Wily Hunter was a seasonal event in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. Coinciding with the Solar and Lunar New Years of 2024, this event takes place in a festive alternate reality of Wutai created by a portal in the lifestream. It was the first event in the New Year holiday series.
Synopsis[]
After departing Kalm, Cloud and his crew are pulled through yet another portal to Wutai, where the atmosphere is merry once more as the New Year gets underway. All marvel at the wondrous sights around the village. Yuffie joins the group as Wutai's ambassador and emcee for the event. With much to do, Aerith inquires as to where the group should start. Yuffie suggests writing out resolutions, but Cloud is disinterested, having none to write. Yuffie, however, is persistent, and begs Cloud to write the name of this year's representative animal. He refuses at first, but acquiesces to Yuffie's pressure and is escorted to a large sheet of enchanted paper, on which he writes the "Dragon" kanji, which vanishes in a wisp of flame. Yuffie is impressed that Cloud summoned a dragon on his first try, something she remembers seeing but once before. A scale soon falls, and Yuffie notes that these can be traded for festival goods. And so, the party resolves to go dragon-hunting in the area.
But, as is her modus operandi, Yuffie has other plans...
Event rewards[]
In line with the upcoming Year of the Dragon, this event offered Brushes of Resolutions as well as Gold and Silver Dragon Scales for exchange at the shop. Featured exchanges included the Dawn's Prayers staff for Aerith and the Best Wishes axe for Glenn.
Featured draw[]
It was also accompanied by a New Year's Step Up draw and an event Stamp Card draw for Cloud and Sephiroth.
Behind the scenes[]
The festive remix of the Chocobo Theme used in cutscenes was previously used in Mobius Final Fantasy for its New Year's celebrations. A remix of "Descendant of the Shinobi" is used in battles with Yuffie.
Pre-dating Yuffie's arrival as a playable character, this event served as her introduction to the original Final Fantasy VII cast in-game, whereas her younger self cameos in the Crisis Core story. To this end, developers launched a brief social media campaign using X and Discord actions to grant rewards including a gratis 5-star 4-Point Shuriken for Yuffie when she was added.
