The Price of Thievery is an Odd Job in Chapter 9, "The Town That Never Sleeps", in Final Fantasy VII Remake. It takes place in both Wall Market and the Collapsed Expressway. Madam M asks Cloud Strife to speak to Mireille while Aerith Gainsborough's dress is being prepared.

"The Price of Thievery" and "Shears' Counterattack" part of a questline available depending on the player's choice throughout "The Town That Never Sleeps", particularly during "Madam M's Desire". Different choices will instead provide the quests "The Party Never Stops" and "A Dynamite Body".

How to get[]

The following choices increase the chance of getting Madam M's questline:

  • Describing Tifa as "She's great at handling the books" (during "Chasing Tifa").
  • Ignoring "Vagabond Johnny".
  • Saying "How much?" to the innkeeper when he offers a room to Cloud and Aerith.
  • Selecting "No deal" when offered a coin toss (during "Sam").
  • Selecting the Luxury Course or the Standard Course at Madam M's parlor (during "Madam M's Desire").
  • Selecting "It matter what I think?" when Aerith asks about her outfit (during "Madam M's Desire").

Walkthrough[]

The Price of Thievery from FFVII Remake

Mireille is found on the eastern side of Wall Market. After accepting the quest, travel to the Collapsed Expressway past Evergreen Park, where Beck, Burke, and Butch are encountered along with a larger Grungy Bandit. All of these enemies are weak to Fire Fire, meaning equipping the Fire Materia Fire Materia to cast Fira Fira when they are clustered together can be very effective. The First Strike Materia First Strike Materia is also extremely useful to take many out before the battle begins.

The crucial thing for the battle is important to guard against or avoid their attacks, because they can stun Cloud, making him very vulnerable to damage. Defeat Beck, Burke, and Butch first with Fira to remove their ability to throw electric mines and stun Cloud, then focus on the Grungy Bandit. This enemy can do considerable damage if its attacks are not dodged, but can be interrupted and pressured by dealing considerable damage with one of Cloud's abilities or just with Fira.

After the three are defeated, Cloud returns to Mireille, finishing the sidequest.

Hard mode tips[]

Much like before, fire materia is ideal to equip, though it is better to use it with Elemental Materia Elemental Materia in order to save MP. For this strategy, equip Parry Materia Parry Materia and Steadfast Block Materia Steadfast Block Materia also, and remain in Punisher Mode and simply guard the entire time, after casting Regen Regen on Cloud. This allows Cloud to counterattack Beck, Burke, and Butch while dodge-rolling (remaining in Punisher Mode if Parry materia is equipped) to avoid the Grungy Bandit. Counterstance can be used in-between also. Against the Grungy Bandit, whose attacks can normally not be blocked, Cloud should perform Parry dodge-rolls to avoid them, and then lay into the bandit with his own attacks to stagger, then finish the bandit off with Infinity's End.
