The Mandragoras (マンドラーズ, Mandorāzu?, lit. Mandrars) are a recurring group of enemies in the Final Fantasy series. They are a group of five mandragoras fought as a boss encounter, often being alluded to as royalty among their kind.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy XII[]
The Mandragoras (Alraune King, Mandragora Prince, Onion Queen, Topstalk, and Pumpkin Star) are fought in the Sochen Cave Palace and later appear as normal enemies. They are petitioned by an Archadian noble as an unofficial Hunt, but every aspiring hunter he hires fails to defeat them. The party finds his son on the Tchita Uplands and gives them the hunt, though admits he knows not what the "menace" in the Sochen Cave Palace is, as no one who lays eyes on them will speak of them. The player must accept this hunt to progress, as the boy holds the key to get through the palace and will not give it up until the hunt is accepted.
When the Mandragoras are defeated, the party can join the Rare Game hunt club on Phon Coast after the storyline events in Archades.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
The Mandragoras (Tomato King, Mandragora Queen, Onion Prince, Eggplant Knight, and Garlic Jester) are fought in the FATE of the same name in Western La Noscea. The FATE can only be activated by players on the Seeds of Rebellion quest, part of the Hildibrand Manderville questline, by talking to Hildibrand during the appropriate stage of the quest. Variations on this group of Mandragoras can later be encountered in the Aquapolis (with the Polis prefix), Akadaemia Anyder (Laboratory prefix), Labyrinthos (Stray prefix), and the Shifting Gymnasion Agonon (Gymnastic prefix).
Each member of the Mandragoras can be obtained as a minion via gardening, and as a mount by trading in Seafarer's Cowries on the Island Sanctuary. The Mandragoras Frypan tool features the five Mandragoras as an engraving on the frypan.
The Mandragora Prince, a member of the Final Fantasy XII incarnation of the group, can encountered separately in the FATE One Prince.
