"The Man with the Machine Gun" is a battle theme from Final Fantasy VIII associated with Laguna Loire, composed and arranged by Nobuo Uematsu. It has since become a popular theme from the series and has musically represented Final Fantasy VIII in a number of rearrangements and concerts.

Despite Final Fantasy VIII not featuring character themes, "The Man with the Machine Gun" is widely associated with Laguna Loire, not only due to referring to his weapon of choice, but also because it only plays when he is playable.

In its debut, "The Man with the Machine Gun" is a secondary battle theme, replacing "Don't Be Afraid" during the dream sequences in which Squall Leonhart and his team assume the roles of Laguna Loire, Kiros Seagill, and Ward Zabac.

"The Man with the Machine Gun" is track 19 on disc 1 of the Final Fantasy VIII: Original Soundtrack.

"The Man with the Machine Gun" was remastered as track 19 on the Final Fantasy VIII Original Soundtrack Revival Disc.

Final Fantasy XV[]

"The Man with the Machine Gun" plays in the music player after the player buys the Memories of FFVIII soundtrack from Hammerhead for 100 gil.

"The Man with the Machine Gun" is also available as track 92 on the limited edition Blu-ray disc of the Final Fantasy XV: Original Soundtrack.

Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008)[]

The original version of this song can be purchased for 500 PP in the PP Catalog after defeating Chaos.

After being acquired, "The Man with the Machine Gun" can be automatically selected for battles including Squall or Ultimecia, or taking place at Ultimecia's Castle.

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy[]

The original version is a bonus track. It can be bought for 150 PP from the PP Catalog, and is now available from the start. It can also be automatically selected for battles including the newcomer Laguna Loire, Squall Leonhart or Ultimecia, or taking place at Ultimecia's Castle.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT[]

A new techno arrangement by Takeharu Ishimoto and the original PlayStation version appear as battle music and can be bought from the shop for 3,600 gil. The arrangement from Final Fantasy Record Keeper was available for a limited time for 1,500 gil.

"The Man with the Machine Gun (Arrangement)" is track 10 on disc 1 of the Dissidia Final Fantasy -Arcade- Original Soundtrack Vol. 2 and is track 25 on the Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Original Soundtrack.

"The Man with the Machine Gun" was arranged by Yuzo Takahashi into the eponymous theme of Dungeon Hero X. "Dungeon Hero X's Theme" (ダンジョンヒーローXのテーマ, Danjon Hīrō X no Tēma?) was released as track 10 on the Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon ~Labyrinth of Forgotten Time~ Original Soundtrack.

The Black Mages II: The Skies Above[]

A metal cover of "The Man with the Machine Gun" was performed by The Black Mages and included in their second album in 2004 as a progressive metal arrangement. Parts of the song "The Legendary Beast" are also included in this remix. It was arranged by Kenichiro Fukui who also programmed the synthesizer. It is track 7 on the album.

Distant Worlds II: More Music from Final Fantasy[]

"The Man with the Machine Gun" was performed live by The Black Mages at Club Citta on January 22-23, 2005 and at Namba Hatch on January 28, 2005. It was recorded and released as track 9 on the album.

Distant Worlds: Music from Final Fantasy Returning Home[]
