Scarlet's Trap, Find That Materia, The Scent of Materia, and The Hunt Continues are the first quests in Chapter 2, "Covert Ops", of "Episode INTERmission" in Final Fantasy VII Remake. "Scarlet's Trap" has the subquest A Way Out. After infiltrating the Shinra Building successfully, Yuffie Kisaragi and Sonon Kusakabe sneak through a group of reporters and take the elevator down to B16 - Advancd Weaponry: Inspection floor. However, Scarlet, headed to the floor herself, notices both were of Wutai, and sends them to die to her weapons located on the same floor.

Walkthrough[]

The quest begins in the Elevator Hall of B16 - Advanced Weaponry: Inspection in the Shinra Building. Early on are a bench and vending machine, where some new armor and accessories can be acquired but are not essential. To prepare for the upcoming fights, Lightning Materia Lightning Materia and Elemental Materia Elemental Materia are useful pairings, and Subversion Materia Subversion Materia can be helpful in many circumstances. First Strike Materia First Strike Materia is crucial to equip if possessed, and HP Up Materia HP Up Materia is very helpful for Yuffie. Though only Yuffie is playable, Sonon can still be given commands, meaning it is good to give him some materia with commands to free Yuffie's materia slots: for instance, giving Sonon subversion and Assess Materia Assess Materia frees up room for Yuffie to use lightning and elemental together.

Proceeding down the linear path leads to the Testing Facility. After some dialogue, a Scarlet hologram appears, followed by several Slug-Rays and a Sweeper activating. These enemies are all weak to Lightning Lightning, meaning Lightning Ninjutsu and Throw is effective against them. Against the Sweeper, a half-charged Thunderous Banishment can do immense damage. After defeating the first set of enemies, more groups of enemies appear. Two Monodrives appear, which are weak to Wind Wind but can be dispatched simply with Throw. Alternatively, synergizing with Sonon (using L2) and using a Synergized Windstorm can dispatch both quickly. After this, a way of Slug-Rays and Shock-Rays appear, all of which are weak to lightning. Similar tactics apply, though they are more durable and make use of Barrier Barrier. Using Synergized Art of War or a charged Banishment with Lightning Ninjutsu can dispatch these enemies.

Once these enemies are defeated, Scarlet informs both on hologram they can leave. Throw a ninja star to drop the container at the end of the room to create a path up to B15 - Advanced Weaponry: Production, by getting a boost from Sonon and then dropping the ladder so he can join. A cutscene commences upon walking through the corridor, after which, follow it through to the corridor to the Compressor Facilities and open the door for a brief scene, followed by an attack from Shock Troopers. Shock Troopers will dodge many normal attacks and are hard to hit unless caught off-guard, though a Synergized Art of War is effective against them. At the end of the room, operate the computer terminal to reactivate the power and acquire a Ninja Cannonball Materia Ninja Cannonball Materia orb. This materia grants an attack while synergized, by pressing R1 + Triangle together, dealing decent damage and filling Sonon's ATB gauge when it connects, making it worthwhile to equip at all times on Sonon or Yuffie. Two other opened pods have Skill Master Materia Skill Master Materia (northwest of the map along the second indentation in the wall Skill Master Materia from FFVIIR INTERmission) and Steadfast Block Materia Steadfast Block Materia Steadfast Block Materia location from FFVIIR INTERmission.

After grabbing the materia, the party must proceed upwards, though the elevator is inoperable. Instead, from the computer terminal, hop on the pipe to the right and follow to a wall on the right overlooking the fan, then climb up to B14 - Advanced Weaponry: Maintenance. In the bottom-right corner on the map on this floor, a treasure chest contains a ribbon, an extremely useful accessory that prevents detrimental status effects, and should be given to Yuffie. The path left on the map proceeds forward to a corridor into the Maintenance Facilities area.

Volant Armlet location from FFVIIR INTERmission

Volant Armlet found in a chest.

In the Maintenance Facilities corridor, taking a detour left leads to a treasure chest with a volant armlet (a single-slot armor with triple materia-growth), while proceeding down the corridor leads to the facilities themselves, where 3-C SOLDIER operators are fought. These are weak to Fire Fire, and are fairly durable enemies that can deal decent damage, but can be dealt with by synergizing with Sonon, using Ninja Cannonball to fill his ATB, and then performing a Synergized Art of War. From here, a linear path can be followed around the facility until the Armored Magitrooper, a very durable enemy that is immune to magic and can use a powerful laser attacks that deal great damage. One such attack from their chest, Core Override, deals heavy damage but exposes their core, at which point, Yuffie can steal it using Steal or Mug. The enemy can also use Eject, self-destructing the armor and hopping out as an Enhanced Magitrooper, a faster enemy that is less durable but can deal fair damage. Using Throw to knock it off-guard and stunning it with chain attacks is best, though magic and fire-elemental attacks can build its stagger gauge quickly.

With the Magitrooper defeated, follow the path to a corridor in the top-right of the map. A purple chest contains a File:Djinn Staff from FFVII Remake icon.png Djinn Staff for Sonon, which makes him a slightly better spellcaster, teaches his Incite ability, and can teach the Auto-Remedy weapon passive. Continue down the corridor to the north end of the Central Terminal Utility Access, where a computer terminal activates power. This opens a room, visited in "Secret Vault", for a variety of useful materia by completing the Shinra Box Buster challenge. To proceed, hop on the pipe to the right of the terminal and head up to B13 - Advanced Weaponry: Development. Heading up the left side (east on the map) leads to a short path where Time Materia Time Materia can be found, while heading up the right side (west on the map) continues with the story.

At B13's main path, a cutscene commences, following which a bridge must be lowered by using Throw to cut it down. Lower it and cross, taking the short detour left to find a healing carcanet, then proceed across and take the door into a room where security officers and an elite grenadier are fought (both of which can be easily beaten). Continue along the linear path and enter the Materia Research Facility. After a brief cutscene, head down the corridor that opens up to find a computer terminal and reactivate power, then return to the room for another cutscene, followed by a battle against an Armored Magitrooper and an Armored Shock Trooper. Synergized Art of War and Banishment attacks are effective against both, along with lightning-based damage, though it is important to steer clear of the armor when destroyed before they eject to their Enhanced Magitrooper and Enhanced Shock Trooper forms, as the armor self-destructs on the way out and can deal heavy damage. Their Enhanced forms are easier to deal with, however, as they are less durable.

With both armored troopers defeated, after a cutscene, a corridor opens to the next quest, "The Invitation". Before leaving the room, check the machine that Yuffie was slammed against earlier to obtain an AP Up Materia AP Up Materia.

Hard mode tips[]

The Shinra Combat Simulator opens upon retrying the challenge. Though the first two challenges can be defeated easily, it is best to wait until reaching level 50 and obtaining more powerful equipment in chapter 2 before attempting the third challenge.

The strategy against most normal enemies is the same, though Yuffie can use Elemental Materia Elemental Materia paired with Fire Materia Fire Materia or Lightning Materia Lightning Materia (depending on the encounter). A few more materia can be obtained at each point, including First Strike Materia First Strike Materia at the first Compressor Facilities.
