Blood-red battle armor for Scarlet's personal use. Its creator's personality can be seen in every facet of this machine, from its extravagantly outfitted cockpit—that emphasizes form over function—to its arms' oversized weapons loadout.
Enemy Intel
The Crimson Mare is a boss in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, in the "Episode INTERmission" DLC. Yuffie and Sonon encounter it in the research area of Shinra Building's Advanced Weaponry in "Fateful Confrontation". The Crimson Mare is Shinra Electric Power Company director Scarlet's personal war machine, which she pilots herself.
An upgraded version of the Crimson Mare is fought in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Battle[]
The Crimson Mare is weak to
Lightning, while the pilot is weak to
Fire; however, the main boss takes half damage from fire. The Crimson Mare can deal heavy damage with bullets, which can be guarded against. Bullet Barrage deals only moderate damage, but will interrupt. The suit is also capable of charging through Yuffie and Sonon, which can be dodged; when the boss glows red, the player can ready their dodge (Brumal Form helps). Her Flame Spire erects a fiery pillar on the battlefield. Scarlet summons Sentry Rays and Sentry Launchers, whose damage can rack up fast. If the player advances the battle "too fast", Scarlet lacks the time to deploy the gun turrets, thus the player missing out on assessing them for Enemy Intel completion.
While the Crimson Mare is highly durable, Scarlet herself has less HP, and is a separate targetable part of the boss. Once her HP drops, the Crimson Mare becomes pressured and is vulnerable to damage.
When the Crimson Mare's HP falls to 2/3, a short cutscene commences and the boss returns with two makocannons[note 1] that deal heavy damage when fired, but the attack is easy to see coming and thus avoided with positioning; Crimson Mare is about to fire the cannons when it puts up an arm and charges. After the boss drops to 1/3 HP, it enters its final phase, where it uses a claymore and shield. The claymore can deal sweeping melee damage in this form, but both it and the shield are weak points. Every time the player destroys both arms, the boss will swap between the cannons and the claymore & shield.
Defeating Scarlet earns the Firebird Armlet, an armor piece that revives the wearer from KO once.
Strategy[]
Using Haste.
Lightning Materia paired with
Elemental Materia is best on Yuffie's shuriken. Having access to healing on both party members is ideal, and pairing
Healing Materia with
Magnify Materia on one or both party members is helpful. Chthonian Armlet+Gozu Drive is a good setup on Yuffie, as she can deal greatly improved damage when her health is up.
Time Materia is useful for its Haste. Bringing
Ninja Cannonball Materia is useful for boosting Sonon's ATB. Giving Yuffie
Fire Materia can be useful for targeting Scarlet specifically. Giving Sonon
Synergy Materia linked with lightning materia makes him use a free Thunder spell whenever Yuffie uses an ATB command.
The small turrets that Scarlet deploys around the battle arena can be dealt with quickly using Throw or Thunder spells, but deal enough damage that they are high-priority targets. After the turrets are taken care of, focusing on targeting Scarlet is useful, as she has less health and attacking her can pressure the boss. She is vulnerable to fire damage, making switching to Fire Ninjutsu on-the-fly useful, and using Fire spells targeted at her. Synergizing with Sonon ensures he will attack the same target as Yuffie; if Yuffie is using Fire Ninjutsu on Scarlet, Sonon will copy her when the pair is synergized. ATB builds slower when synergized, but the player can make use of
Haste and use Ninja Cannonball to help Sonon along. Ranged Windstorm, Synergized Art of War, and a charged Banishment are effective against Scarlet as well as her mech suit; Banishment takes on whatever element Yuffie has active via her Elemental Ninjutsu.
When Scarlet brings out the cannons, using Throw and Retrieve to attack and destroy them can pressure the boss, rendering it vulnerable. Alternatively, Yuffie can activate Lightning Ninjutsu and focus on one cannon at a time while synergized to double up the lightning damage with Sonon. Depleting the cannons and Scarlet's HP can easily stagger the boss, at which point, limit breaks, or simply more Synergized Art of War, should be used. Using Synergized Windstorm on a staggered foe also raises the target's stagger bonus damage, allowing any following attacks, such as limit breaks, deal even more damage.
In the final phase, the player should aim to cripple Scarlet first, then destroy the claymore and shield, rendering the boss vulnerable to damage, and easy to destroy. Again, synergizing with Sonon ensures both party members attack the same target, speeding up the process.
When Ramuh is ready, he can be brought out to deal severe lightning damage, which the boss is weak to.
Hard mode[]
Scarlet uses two new moves. When the cannons are out, she now can use Fusillade, which sends out a barrage of bullets followed by a laser beam. The player can guard against the bullets and dodge the beam with Brumal Form. When Scarlet brings out the claymore and shield, she can now use Fulgent Blade where she quickly closes the distance to the player and hacks away with the claymore. It can be precision-guarded against with well-timed guard, and Brumal Form still works.
Equipping multiple
HP Up Materia is beneficial, and being ready to dodge more attacks with Brumal Form, avoiding damage altogether. Keeping
Regen up helps. Defeating Scarlet in hard mode will grant 10 SP books to both Yuffie and Sonon.
It is useful to conserve MP for the final boss, though Yuffie's fully upgraded Boomerang has good MP-regeneration properties that mitigates the inability to replenish MP with items.

Notes[]
- ↑ Scarlet's use of mako cannons may allude to her association with the Junon Mako Cannon in the original Final Fantasy VII, which she named the Sister Ray.
