The Binding Coil of Bahamut - Turn 1, located in the Upper Aetheroacoustic Exploratory Site and known by players as T1, is the first turn of the Binding Coil of Bahamut Raid Raid in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Story[]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Situated upon Vylbrand, Castrum Occidens is more akin to a research facility than a fortress. Even before its first pillar was driven into the ground, Legatus Gaius van Baelsar had ordered his people to probe the fragment of Dalamud which fell at that precise location. The impact resulted in the creation of vast caverns pervaded by corrupted crystals. Though unknown dangers lie in wait within, you must brave them all if you are to learn the truth of the Calamity.

In-game Description

During the Battle of Carteneau, a fragment of Dalamud landed in Eastern La Noscea, creating a crystalline cave over which the XIVth Imperial Legion built Castrum Occidens. The Garlean Empire sent forces into the labyrinth in search of the Allagan technology encased within Dalamud.

Alisaie Leveilleur and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn send an expedition of their own into the coil, hoping to get to the Allagan weaponry before the Garleans can and unearth the truth behind the Seventh Umbral Era and the death of Louisoix Leveilleur. However, 237 yalms below the surface, they meet resistance from Allagan biotech that is still live, thousands of years after the fall of their Empire.

Spoilers end here.

Objectives[]

  1. Gain access to the Exploratory Site: 0/1
  2. Breach the aetherial fields: 0/2
  3. Defeat Caduceus: 0/1

Progression[]

Meteor fissure[]

After witnessing a cutscene, the party descends down a Garlean-built staircase into a side cave guarded by the ADS mid-boss. Throughout the fight, it will use High Voltage to paralyze the party, making it recommended to Silence the attack. During the battle, smaller Attack Nodes will appear from behind and should be dealt with by an off-tank. If not destroyed swiftly, ADS will begin casting Object199, dealing heavy damage to the raid.

Aetheroacoustic Exploratory Site[]

The party must venture through trash packs to clear the exploratory site. However, one cannot simply sac pull all of the enemies, because two Aetherial Fields are gated by the deaths of Dark Matter Golems which must be killed normally. The Dark Matter Golems have access to a powerful attack called Obliterate but are otherwise harmless.

Allagan Megastructure[]

The party fights Caduceus on this honeycomb-like structure.

Every 30 seconds, Caduceus will receive a stacking buff to damage and certain platforms on the floor of the Megastructure will glow blue. If a player stands on the glowing platforms, a Dark Matter Slime will spawn and aggro the player that spawned it. If the player runs away from the slime, it will detonate, dealing heavy damage to the party. In addition, if the slime is brought to Caduceus, it will donate its health to the boss and remove all of the buff stacks. Meanwhile, the boss will attack the tank and launch a Tail Swipe that will damage any melee fighters that don't dodge it. Caduceus will also attack random players with Acid Spit, which creates a puddle of acid under the target, dealing damage over time.

Once Caduceus reaches 60% health, it will split into two snakes with 30% health each. If the snakes are allowed to fuse together, the resulting Caduceus will begin to gain stacks every 3 seconds, and both bosses must be destroyed around the same time.

The intended strategy for use against Caduceus is to designate a non-tank to spawn a single Dark Matter Slime every time the boss gains a stack, and DPS it down to very low health before feeding it to the boss, removing its stacks. When the second Caduceus spawns, the off-tank must pull it away, and two players must be responsible for pulling two Dark Matter Slimes, one for each snake. Two DPS will attack each snake, timing their attacks so that both are slain at the same time.

However, with nerfs to the original Binding Coil, it has become more popular for parties to avoid spawning Dark Matter Slimes at all, and allow the snakes to fuse at 60%. The heavily-stacked Caduceus will deal heavy damage to the main tank, and the healers must be prepared for the barrage of attacks that the boss will launch. However, with only 302,079 HP, the boss should fall before the party is overrun.

Journal

  • Urianger would speak with you regarding the unidentified primal.
  • Cryptic as ever, Urianger informs you that the as-yet-unidentified primal may soon awaken. He then reveals that an equally unidentified individual who is known to the Scions has taken it upon herself to investigate the being, and would solicit your assistance. Make your way to Wineport in eastern La Noscea, where the mystery maiden awaits.
  • You arrive at Wineport to find Alphinaud's twin sister, Alisaie, who has been conspicuous by her absence throughout your struggles thus far. She reveals to you that Castrum Occidens straddles a cavern formed in the wake of the Calamity, and expresses her desire to probe its uncharted depths. Fight your way through the imperial stronghold and seek a path down into the darkness.
  • You have found the entrance to the cavern in the innermost sector of Castrum Occidens. Report your success to Storm Private J'brohka.
  • J'brohka reveals to you that she is in the service of Alisaie, although she has enlisted with the Maelstrom for reasons of convenience. Her affiliations thus declared, J'brohka urges you to spare neither preparation nor caution for your expedition. Alisaie believes the truth of the Calamity sleeps within the cavern's unknown depths... but will she find the answers she seeks? ※The Binding Coil of Bahamut can be accessed via the Duty Finder.

Objectives

  • Report to the mystery individual at Wineport.
  • Fight your way through Castrum Occidens.
  • Report to J'brohka.

Musical themes[]

As with most Binding Coil turns, "Primal Timbre" plays out of combat and "Spiral" plays in combat; the music that plays during the battles against Caduceus and ADS is "Calamity Unbound".
