The Thanatos (タナトス, Tanatosu?) is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy III. It typically takes the appearance of a headless knight.

The Thanatos appears as an enemy encountered in the Ancients' Maze. It is a moderately dangerous foe, as its physical attacks can inflict a decent chunk of damage to a character, and in the 3D remakes it can attack twice in one turn. In addition, it can also attack with the Breakga spell to inflict Petrify.
