Teraflare (テラフレア, Terafurea?), also spelled Tera Flare, is a recurring attack in the Final Fantasy series. It is an upgraded form of Megaflare even stronger than Gigaflare, and it does colossal non-elemental damage to all targets. It is universally exclusive to Bahamut and his incarnations.
Tera Flare is the ability of Bahamut ZERO. It has a power of 120 and ignores Magic Defense.
Teraflare is a Breath-type weapon used by Bahamut. Unusually for the attack, it deals Fire-elemental damage.
Teraflare is used by Jet Bahamut, and deals massive non-elemental damage to the party. It is used after a countdown of three while either Amber Bahamut or Garnet Bahamut is alive, but the other is not.
Teraflare is the ultimate attack used by Bahamut Prime in The Final Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4. The only way to survive this ability is to stand on the Neurolink dropped by The Storm of Meracydia upon death, which grants the buff Flare Dampening. In addition to this, it is also recommended that either a Paladin or Warrior use at least a Level 2 Limit Break (Mighty Guard) or Level 3 Limit Break (Last Bastion) if it is available. It deals very heavy damage on all party members and transitions the fight to its final phase.
Starting with version 3.0 and the release of Heavensward, Summoners will cast Teraflare as their level 3 Limit Break. Despite the name, its visual effect is actually based on Bahamut's Gigaflare. Like Meteor, it inflicts significant damage to enemies in an area of effect.
In the Unending Coil of Bahamut, Bahamut Prime will always use Teraflare after the party defeats Twintania and Nael Deus Darnus in the second phase of the battle. Teraflare will unavoidably kill the entire party, but if Twintania and Nael Deus Darnus were defeated before the Aethertrail Attunement reaches 100, Phoenix will appear and attack Bahamut, before reviving the party with Flames of Rebirth.
Bahamut used Teraflare during the War of the Astrals 2,000 years ago to purge the Starscourge from existence, but the attack was absorbed by the other Astrals who this fell into slumber, exhausted. Bahamut would need to "recharge" for millennia to be able to use Teraflare again, and during this time tasked the kings of Lucis and the Oracles of Tenebrae with fighting the Scourge and its daemons. Dawn of the Future depicts an alternate ending to the saga where Ardyn Izunia accumulates power too great for Bahamut's True King to purge, and thus Bahamut sets out to use Teraflare again, planning to energize it with the darkness itself as collected by the revived Lunafreya Nox Fleuret. His plan fails when Teraflare is again blocked by the other Astrals, and Noctis and Ardyn cooperate to ensure Bahamut will never be able to use Teraflare again by felling him in both the physical and the heavenly realms at the same time.
Tera Flare is the ultimate attack of the Eidolon Bahamut ZERO, triggered when Mega Flare is charged up to its third level of power. Tera Flare's animation depicts several individual Bahamuts firing Mega Flares at the opponent, resulting in multiple hits of heavy non-elemental damage.
In the HD Remaster, these attacks will break the damage limit, rather than deal 9999 damage.
