Tepeke
Tepeke is a character in Final Fantasy XIV. She is the daughter of Tsuuhe and Nettse, the guardian of the Perch of the Apex. Tepeke is the main character during the Magical Ranged DPS role quests in the Dawntrail expansion.
History[]
Before Dawntrail[]
When a merchant visited the village asking about the Perch of the Apex and its history, Tepeke proud that her father had been appointed its guardian, told him everything in an attempt to impress the merchant without even considering what he could do with the information. The merchant attacked Tepeke's father, and the treasure was stolen. With her father unconscious, Tepeke felt guilty and decided to recover the relic herself.[1]
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail[]
With the only clue being a mention of Radz-at-Han that the thief had mentioned during his stay in the village, Tepeke decided to board a ship for Thavnair. While Tepeke began her search, her mother hired the Warrior of Light to help Tepeke. Once the two met in Radz-at-Han, Tepeke explained that during her initial investigations, she had heard news of a self-proclaimed savior of Radz-at-Han who called himself the Justiciar. The pair followed the Justiciar's tracks and found an unconscious Radiant Host. After being rescued, the Radiant explained that he had met the Justiciar who brandished a wooden object and invoked some power that made stones fall from the sky, knocking the Radiant unconscious and killing the little monster on the spot. Tepeke was certain that the wooden object was the stolen artifact.[2]
Tepeke discovered that the Justiciar's dubious and exaggerated exploits were beginning to win over the population, particularly young people. Tepeke visited the High Crucible and after explaining the situation to the alchemists, she obtained a powder capable of detecting traces of magic. Tepeke sprinkled the powder around a rock dropped by the Justiciar and detected the aether left over from previous exposure to magical energy. Tepeke concluded that the treasure could somehow manipulate stones, but further contemplation was interrupted by the appearance of a Radiant. He informed them that a young Auri girl had run away from home to join the Justiciar and begs for help in finding her. After rescuing the girl from a beast, Tepeke scolded the girl for following Justiciar, insisting that he couldn't be trusted. Tepeke apologizes for having criticized the girl and volunteers to accompany her back to Yedlihmad.[1]
The Justiciar had been busy performing acts of supposed heroism in Thavnair, with eyewitness accounts reporting that the man had rescued countless citizens from attacks by evil flora. Tepeke considered Justiciar's ability to be present in all cases of these attacks to be highly suspicious and suggested looking for one of these creatures. After capturing one of the creatures and taking it to the alchemists to analyze, they discovered that it had been artificially cultivated using a potent alchemical mixture. Tepeke concluded that Justiciar himself stimulated their growth before sending them to attack the citizens so that he could save them.[3]
Back in Yedlihmad, one of the Radiant said that most of the incidents occurred on rarely traveled routes and supposed that Justiciar may be linked to a merchant who used these roads. Tepeke questioned a merchant who, although at first reluctant to tell the truth, eventually revealed himself to be Justiciar's father, whose real name was Virazahn. The merchant confessed that his son visited him recently, carrying valuable alchemical materials and maps containing information about trade routes. Although the man felt guilty about his son's actions, he realized that sharing his story may be the only way to stop his son from committing more crimes and agreed to report it to the Radiant Host.[3]
After Tepeke and Virazahn's father revealed about Justiciar's character, public opinion began to change. Tepeke also shared the rumor that mysterious letters had been circulating among his most fervent Justiciar followers. Warrior of Light interrogated the merchant Zasshal who was seen mentioning Justiciar. Zasshal showed no qualms about revealing Virazahn's secrets. He said that he was approached by Justiciar, who bought all the maps from the merchant. Shortly afterwards, letters appeared in Radz-at-Han with a copy of a map leading to the canals of Uznair. Tepeke and the Warrior of Light follow a young man to the entrance of Uznair, eventually arriving at a chamber with Justiciar full of large scattered stones and a group of wounded people. Virazahn made a grandiose speech, declaring his intention to become known as Radz-at-Han's greatest hero, before retreating behind a shower of stones, leaving the wounded behind. After leaving the canals, Tepeke guided the injured people to the care of the Radiant Host.[4]
Eventually Tepeke received the news that her father had woken up and traveled to Tuliyollal. Although she wanted to go and seek his advice, Tepeke had already pledged to help the Radiant Host in the search for Virazahn. Tepeke had asked the Warrior of Light to meet her father in her place. Once the Warrior of Light returned to Radz-at-Han, Tepeke hastily informed them that Virazahn had been spotted nearby. On the spot, Virazahn made another speech and declared his intention to become king. Those present were perplexed by his performance, which was then interrupted by the appearance of his father. The merchant begged his son to give up and surrender to the Radiant Host, but Virazahn unleashed the power of the treasure, dropping stones on his father. He then left, declaring that he would soon challenge the Warrior of Light to a battle.[5]
The Radiant Host had organized an arena for the battle with Virazahn at the mountain pass towards Khadga. Tepeke had spread rumors about the location of the battle, and as predicted, Virazahn appeared. After a speech, Virazahn drew his bow and the fight began. The Warrior of Light and Tepeke destroy Virazahn's armor and defeat him. Sensing defeat, Virazahn tried to flee, only to be knocked down by a stone falling from the sky. The Radiant Host soon arrived to take Virazahn prisoner, and Tepeke recovered the relic stolen from her village.[6]
Back at Xbalyav Ty'e in Tuliyollal, Tepeke told her parents everything that happened. Tepeke made a suggestion that her people should learn how to use the perch safely, rather than locking it away to be shrouded in legend again. Although the viability of the prospect was still in question, Tepeke and Nettse were optimistic that the villagers would listen to the words of the one who managed to recover the treasure. Tepeke and her family return to their village.[6]
