Telophoroi's towers are a key element in Final Fantasy XIV, appearing the first time at the events of patch 5.4 "Futures Rewritten" and in the first half of the Endwalker expansion. After their appearance in the story, the towers can be seen in different places of the open world areas of the Source, though far enough from the players' reach.
Profile[]
They are dark towers that appeared throughout the world at an instant. Apparently of Garlean design, they were erected by the Ascian Fandaniel in his attempt to recreate the Final Days that put an end to the Amaurotine era. The towers serve as "factories" to create dark versions of the primals. For this, the towers hold captive many beastmen, so their faith and suffering give birth to the dark entities.
The towers emit waves to their surrounding areas that can enthrall anyone who goes near them, turning them into brainwashed slaves to the Garlean Empire. Only those gifted with the Echo can safely enter in these towers. The towers also drain the aether from their surroundings so they can give birth the lunar primals.
In truth, the towers are, in reality, extensions of Anima, a primal created from the faith the Garleans had towards their emperor, Varis zos Galvus, during the chaos that ravaged their empire after his assassination. His corpse being a medium for the primal's manifestation, Anima extended it's influence towards other locations of the world by using limbs of Varis as the core of the towers. Further, the towers' true purpose was to gather large amounts of aether, sending it towards Fandaniel's Tower of Babil, constructed in the ruins of Garlemald's capital, with which the rogue ascian aimed to use to create a force strong enough to release Zodiark from his prison on the moon and reenact the Final Days.
History[]
To counter the global threat, the Great Work at Thavnair, led by the alchemist Nidhana, developed warding scales made from the great wyrm Vrtra's own hide to ward off enthrallment and allow individuals other than those blessed with the Echo to safely enter the towers. After a successful test run in the Tower of Zot and subsequent destruction of its core, the tower dissolved into nothing. With this victory, the scales went into mass production and sent across the world for the Grand Company of Eorzea to launch a counteroffensive and strike at the heart of Garlemald, eventually being able to invade the Tower of Babil and destroy Anima, allowing Varis's tortured soul to rest.
Following Anima's destruction, almost all remaining towers across the world ceased to exist, with only the one in the northern districts of Garlemald remaining. This one is finally destroyed after Nerva Galvus' death.
Locations[]
The towers can be seen in the following places:
Region | Location | Image |
---|---|---|
Thanalan | In Southern Thanalan, to the southeast of the Sagolii Desert. | |
La Noscea | In Outer La Noscea, to the west of the Floating City of Nym. | |
Black Shroud | In the South Shroud, to the east of Rootslake. | |
Dravania | In the Dravanian Forelands, to the south of Avalonia Fallen. | |
Gyr Abania | In the Lochs, to the south of the Ala Mhigan Quarter. | |
Othard | In Yanxia, to the west of the Glittering Basin beyond Castrum Fluminis. | |
Paglth'an | In the Gilded Sea, far beyond the Sunseat arena. Inside there are captive Amalj'aa to create Lunar Ifrit. | |
Thavnair | Named by the locals as the "Tower of Zot", it is in the isle of Narunnair, at the west of the Hamsa Hatchery. Inside there are captive Matanga to create Daivadipa and the Magus Sisters. | |
Garlemald | Though unseen for the player, there is one tower in the Fabrica district at the north of the imperial capital, beyond the Tower of Babil. It is the only tower to persist after Anima's destruction. |
There are no sights of towers in the currently visitable areas of Coerthas, Mor Dhona, Abalathia, nor Hingashi, so it is unknown if there are towers at those places. It is unknown if other unvisitable places like Dalmasca or Meracydia have towers. As Sadu Dotharl mentions, there are no towers in the Azim Steppe.
The towers are only present in the Source, so there are no towers in Norvrandt areas.
After completing the the Tower of Babil-dungeon, all the towers disappear.
Behind the scenes[]
The towers are only seen if the player is in the areas where they are present. The tower will not be present if the player is in another nearby place, like Upper La Noscea for Outer La Noscea's tower, or the Royal Menagerie for the Lochs' tower. The only exception being Thavnair's, whose tower can technically be seen from Radz-at-Han (though only in New Game+, as Radz-at-Han is otherwise inaccessible until after destroying the Tower of Zot).
