Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Tornado (ability)". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

We already have an article on W Wind, and you want to make Weak redirect here. I see your point, but do you think they really are the same spell (W Wind, for example, takes away 90% of ALL people's HP, freind and foe, while Weak always reduces a Foe's HP to single digits). And why should Tornado be the name? Frankly, by game, we're going with the earliest translation. Crazyswordsman 05:16, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

I suppose Cyclonic would fit better, but it's a monster attack. The name is Tornado according to III, which obviously is before IV.koku 08:01, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Why doesn't it say anything about Airborne creatures/Bosses being weak against W type spells? I'm very dissapointed with the lacking knowledge.

Oh And on FFVIII, If casting float on a enemy, it will make them weaker against W type. And if you have absorb Wind, it will heal you even more rather than doing opposite.

Whirlwind / Cyclone / Tornado / Twister / Hurricane[edit source]

A tendency to deal water damage is enough to not warrant a parent page. The most annoying thing about this is many of them appear as %attacks as well as wind attacks. Parent pages are designed to group all similar things. A recurring name should just be a disambig.
Perhaps we should just create a page for... I don't know. It's all too confusing and annoying.  ILHI 14:02, January 6, 2010 (UTC)

Hurricane - Twister - Maelstrom[edit source]

Tornado, Cyclone and Whirlwind have all been used as different names for the same ability over the series, but the above three in the header are not - Twister, Maelstrom and Hurricane have always been different spells and sometimes are entirly different from each other. I say those three are split off into their own pages and leave this page for Tornado/Cyclone/Whirlwind, because this now is a total mess. Doreiku Kuroofangu 01:11, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

I agree; it's like having fire, blizzard and thunder all on the same page Likeacupcake 01:15, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

The problem is they're not systemaytically ranked like -no suffix-, ra, da, ga, ja. Sometimes the ability can be stronger than another in 1 game but vice versa in another game.

True, but the relation among spells shouldn't be the focus. A comparison would be to have Flame, Fireball and Flamethrower on the same page. Doreiku Kuroofangu 01:28, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

I'm entirely confused. Simply: attacks which reduce to very low health ([[Maelstorm)) and wind-elemental enemy attacks (Tornado?) should have different articles. 14:57, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

And thus now they do. Doreiku Kuroofangu 16:35, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
No it doesn't. "It most often deals strong Wind-elemental damage, but may also reduce targets to single digit health.", "which reduces the party's HP to 1/16 of their current HP". And then there's "its damage is equal to 90% of the target's max HP" which definitely isn't wind-elemental. 16:45, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
Well the catch is technically Tornado, Cyclone and Whirlwind have all been used interchangeably, and its effect varies. Like, FF6's Tornado puts everyone at low health, but FF7's Tornado just does wind-elemental damage. Doreiku Kuroofangu 17:10, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
I understand that. But that isn't what parents are for. Parents don't parent based on names, they parent based on similar things. Now, a lot of the time, similar things have similar names, like Behemoth, but not in this case. If things have the same name but are different things, then we use a disambig, like Shadow.
Sometimes we have to do things like Bomb Core... maybe we should do that here. 17:24, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

FF7[edit source]

What's so wrong with the statement that it's the only player-available Wind-elemental spell?

Typhon and Choco/Mog are both wind elelmental, though they are summons not magic spells. R8.50Mango 15:15, November 29, 2010 (UTC)EDITActually, you are right, add it in!
Gosh, here goes a wall of text I wrote to back up my argument :)

Tag[edit source]

Can we retag it as "Tornado (spell)" to help differentiate it from "Tornado (Bushido)", like we have e.g. "Flood (Ninjutsu)" and "Flood (spell)"?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 11:54, February 20, 2016 (UTC)

I think I would prefer (Magic) so the command is the tag like with Bushido and Ninjutsu etc...even if the command is sometimes called "Black Magic" etc depending on game.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 00:13, February 21, 2016 (UTC)

"Storm"[edit source]

The "Storm" disambig page link to this page and I can't find any game where "Tornado" was localized as "Storm" even once. Where does it come from?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 12:08, July 2, 2017 (UTC)

Does it think this FFIV spell can take away 99.9% of target's HP like it kills 99.9% of germs in cleaning/sanitary products we refer to? 00:29, December 9, 2017 (UTC)
