Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Soft reset". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Does this page actually have anything to do with Final Fantasy? I fail to see how it does. It's more a page on the consoles' functionality, rather than on any game. Likeacupcake 23:23, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

Does every game ever work with Soft reset or does the game developer need to add it to their game so it would work?Keltainentoukokuu 23:37, October 24, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu
From memory it is inbuilt to the PSX, but I may be wrong. But what I mean, is it's kind of like having a page for the title screen. Likeacupcake 23:44, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
It works on most FF games. I've done it on FFVII, Crisis Core, and KH:BbS. Don't know about many others. Maybe we can add the button combinations for each game on this page. (It's L+R+Start+Select on BbS) --ShirubaKurono Dissicon ff13 Lig3 23:46, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
And what's wrong with having a page for the title screen? Why does everyone have to be anti-everything? 88.108.110.204 10:52, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
I had an impression there was some FF game I have where it doesn't work, but maybe I'm just fail at it. The new games from FFXII onwards have the soft reset in the pause screen.Keltainentoukokuu 23:58, October 24, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu
I don't remember XIII having it.. Maybe I just didn't care. :/ --ShirubaKurono Dissicon ff13 Lig3 00:03, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, maybe the PS3 is the first console to have the universal soft reset? If you press the PlayStation button on your controller, can't you always return to the title screen?Keltainentoukokuu 20:01, October 25, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu
Doesn't really count as a soft reset. It quits the game and restarts it. So it's a softer reset than the reset button, but its harder than the soft reset button. Soft reset is a command known to the game, so it doesn't have to leave the game. So if I "Reset Game" when playing on FFV, I won't keep the Memo save. 88.108.110.204 20:10, October 25, 2010 (UTC):Err... no. "Soft reset" is something the developers put into FF games. SE probably put it in KH and other SE games since soft reset is a brilliant idea. Point being, there isn't other games that have this. On PS1 demos, pressing the select button was essentially a soft reset.
But L1, R1, L2, R2, Start, Select -- that's an SE thing. If you read the manuals, it tells you about them in there. 88.108.110.204 10:52, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
It's not exclusively an SE thing. I know for a fact having playing them, that the Soul and Tekken series of Namco have the soft reset feature as well. I don't know which game had it first, however. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 20:05, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Well, the point I'm trying to make is it's something the programmers put into the games. Therefore, in my opinion, it deserves a page. 88.108.110.204 20:10, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

"Soft reset" of FFVII and FFVIII PC[]

Haven't put it into practice myself yet, and don't have FFVIII to try it anyway, but read that, at the least for the Steam version, holding Ctrl+R [for a time(?)] will soft reset the game. I do not know if this was present in the retail release(s) nor if there's a means to do so in the "Joystick" configuration. The manual for FFVII, as given on this site, only mentions "CTRL+Q" to Quit. TJF588 (talk) 09:59, January 29, 2014 (UTC)
