--Puck Udroc 16:12, 24 December 2006 (UTC)== What is Shiva's sex? ==

I personally think he's a male. This is because Shiva is a god, not a goddess, in mythology, and because Flea from Chrono Trigger proves that Square can make transvestites. Crazyswordsman 03:38, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

In essence, Shiva of Hinduism is like God of Christianity when it comes to titles. Referred to as male, but has no actual form and thus no actual gender. However, unlike God, Shiva did manifest into a corporal being, and when this happened, Shiva became both male and female (split down the middle). Besides, Bahamut is also proof that Square sometimes discard myths completely, and it has, to my knowledge, never been confirmed that Shiva of Final Fantasy is based on Shiva from Hinduism. And according to Kaze's pronounciation of Shiva, it seems likely that her name was simply based on the word "shiver". P.S. I've always considered her to be female. --Hecko X 04:16, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Most people do. But a lot of people also need to play Chrono Trigger. And frankly, I haven't seen the anime, nor do I plan to. I'd sooner see a live action FF movie than an anime. Crazyswordsman 05:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
You could just press the link in the article, which leads to the summon sequence... --Hecko X 05:49, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
To think anything else would be foolhardy, I should think? NONETHELESS... --Auron Kaizer 15:14, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Also, Shiva has boobs and wers womens underwear, so I'm sure she's a she.

Male, female, what's the difference? Power is beautiful, and I've got power!

Flea

--Auron Kaizer 21:24, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
True, but Shiva is a chick.
Yeah. Agreed. We win CSM =P --Auron Kaizer 21:26, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Shiva's Fayth in Final Fantasy X was a female. I really don't think the God has anything to do with Shiva from FF.
  • Here is the main point, while Shiva in the Hindu Culture may be a guy, the games aren't Hindu Culture, the are japanese. Also, if you haven't noticed, a lot of other thngs change from the real world to the game worlds. In the Final Fantasy Games, Shiva is a female. End of story. Point one for me.

New Image[edit source]

I've got an image of Shiva and her family from Revanant Wings. Problem is, it's a magazine scan, so it doesn't look that nice. I dont' know if I should use it or not in the article. Judge for yourself here.[1].

It'll work. --Auron Kaizer 15:16, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Wouldn't you know it, ever newer scans appeared. This one has the Shiva and Ifrit family. [2] Diablocon 15:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Ice lady = シヴァ (Shiva = Shiva)
Ice guy = ダーリンシヴァ (Darinshiva = Darling Shiva)
Ice kid = ベイビーシヴァ (Beibishiva = Baby Shiva)
Fire "daddy" = イフリート (Ifuriito = Ifrit)
Fire teen = イブリス (Iburisu = Iblis)
Fire toddler = ジン (Jin = Jinn).
Other than Ifrit and Shiva, I'm not certain of wether or not I've translated the names correctly. The list has been edited in accordance to discussion. --Hecko X 17:58, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Your Ifrit ones are exactly the same as my source, as are two of the Shiva ones, but the middle one was called Darling Shiva. Makes sense, since Daren, when you swap the R with L, sounds a little like Darling. Also, should I crop those pictures and put them in, or just wait for even better ones? Diablocon 15:50, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Close, but no cigar, I guess :P I forgot to add Ibrith/Iberith as possiblities for the fire teen though. --Hecko X 15:52, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure イブリス is supposed to be spelt Iblis. It's the name of the Islamic equivalent of Satan. Izlude Tingel 17:49, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I second that thought. Especially since I forgot the "l" instead of "r" possibilities. For the same reasons, they most likely have ジン to be "Jinn", the species that the Efreet belong to (genies). --Hecko X 17:55, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Darling Shiva[edit source]

In the Summon table Baby Shiva links to this page but Darling Shiva does not, and I don't know how to change it so that it does. Could someone get on that? Are You Serious 01:52, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Celtic Mythology[edit source]

I had read from someone that FF's/FFs' Shiva may be based on that of [some sort of] Celtic mythology, though I may have found one other source on the 'net aside from an intricate T-shirt design (http://www.celtic-woodcraft.com/shirts.htm). If anyone here has access to any extensive Celtic (or similar) information (or those that would, such as a professor/teacher), please help in fleshing out this possibility. The Internet is just much too flooded with the Hind00d. TJF588 21:44, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Disambig[edit source]

I think it's time to disambig Shiva. Ifrit's disambig lists the Summon, the Airship, the Server, and the VS and CC enemies. With the exception of the VS appearance, Shiva is all those things as well. I say we move this to [[Shiva (Summon)]], and make the parent page as disambig like Ifrit. Drake Clawfang 18:58, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

I agree. That seems sensible. 1stclasswarrior 22:27, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
I second that motion.Armageddon11(DANIELSJ14) 22:37, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
I agreed; then I moved; then I fixed everything. I was thinking of doing her before I did Ifrit, but I did Ifrit first because the Summon page was already being mis-used. Only noticed this because 1st replied.  ILHI 23:01, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Are there any others? Asura maybe? 1stclasswarrior 23:35, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Asura page is already disambig. Andres 00:02, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Shiva's element(s) in FFXIII[edit source]

Is there any evidence about FFXIII's Shiva "not being just limited to ice element"? From the trailers it doesn't really seem the case.

I've seen in some screenshots icons regarding the four basic elements. I think Shiva's aligned to water this time. - Henryacores^ 16:04, December 5, 2009 (UTC)

I'm quite sure that all the usual 8 elements are present in this game. Besides trailers show that there is a clear distinction between ice and water spells.

The Shiva sisters are of the Ice element. They use ice based attacks and curative magic.

Shiva and VIII[edit source]

Just curious, why is it that summons like Ifirt get their own pages for a Final Fantasy they are in and now Shiva? Should we create one for Shiva for VIII? Fallen-Todesengel 17:55, March 31, 2010 (UTC)

garnet starts with shiva but then the mana cost is much higher. shiva can be summoned though if enough mana is aquired. i have tested it myself. it took a lot of time however but i wanted to.
