List of places to find these lists

If we don't want to nuke this page, we should create a list of sources we can use to get the info needed. C A T U S E03:05, November 26, 2011 (UTC)

VII: [1]

...This is more of a guide than anything else. Though whether or not we want to keep this is up to the people...I guess...? >_>;; Xenomic 03:10, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
The Unrevisitable locations article (with a name that violates manual of style though) exists, so it's a bit like that, but I just wonder of "missable" would actually be a bit tough to define... Is if you get it and then sell it and can never get it back missable? (Like Magic Lamp in FFVIII) In FFXII Omega always drops Omega Badge but if you leave the screen without picking it up you lose it forever. Is it a missable item?Keltainentoukokuu 03:12, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
Erm, Omega Badge for sure is missable but beyond my point. Whether it should be kept...it is indeed a bit guide-y. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 03:14, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
Missable means just that if you go past a certain point in the game other than the Point of no return, you can never get it. Like the Frost Rod in V -- after leaving World 1, you can never go back, and since you can only buy the Frost Rod in World 1, that's the only time to get it. C A T U S E03:16, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
I will assume you're replying to Kelt. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 03:22, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
IMHO there are too many items like this to make a conclusive list, but of course I'm not going to stop anyone from trying to compile it. I just don't see the point. SamSandy 09:19, November 26, 2011 (UTC)

I always thought about making a permanently missable things page. It would also include Blue Magic and stuff like that. This page would serve as a guide to those trying to achieve 100%-- trying to get every item, all equipment. Might I also suggest exclusive drops and steals from enemies that can never be fought beyond a point be included? Then any user wanting to get a perfect game can make sure they get everything listed on the page. 79.69.206.188 16:19, November 26, 2011 (UTC)

MMO missable items

Since we're at this, I would like to ask about the missable items on the MMOs (IE Final Fantasy XI / XIV).

Technically, no item is "missable" per se, as you can always go back and redo battles or whatever to try and get anything you might've missed. However, some things *can* become forever lost due to updates. If some untradeable item is removed for whatever reason, it surely became "missable" as only those who got it before that specific update will have it.

Seasonal events rewards may also be lost forever, unless they give the exact same reward on the following year.

For XIV specifically, it has already been said that all Seventh Umbral Era achievements, quests, drops and even an unique mount will not be attainable anymore by the end of the next year, making it all missable. A few other achievements are already lost.

So, while it's somewhat different from the other games, both XI and XIV also have missable items.

The question is: These items also 'belong' here? Taking into account the fact that they are only missable due to game updates or seasonal events, and not because of an unrevisitable location / battle / secret / whatever like the offline games, it seems worth asking.

DiamondEdge 13:47, November 28, 2011 (UTC)

FFXI: Chocobo Wand especially, and any items from non-repeating Special Events. Need verification on whether it's impossible to get all Conquest Point Titles from all three nations due to points and titles resetting on nation change, and for crafting, if it's impossible to get mastery for all crafts due to craft level and craft points resetting after level 60 in any craft when changing crafts, and if it's impossible to grind and keep the master craft item for every craft.

Final Fantasy VII (And possibly a few others)

There's an awful lot of weapons to be missed, and it's all in one massive paragraph with blobs of blue link that hurt your eyes. I'm wondering if we could bullet point that particular section, and others if they get too long? Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 16:03, September 9, 2012 (UTC)

Could someone put the Added Cut Materia in the article as well please?Yellowlightning1996 (talk) 18:54, April 22, 2018 (UTC)

That's not permanently missable, you can go back to Great Glacier after Cloud rejoins you.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:58, April 22, 2018 (UTC)

Really? Yellowlightning1996 (talk) 19:39, April 22, 2018 (UTC)

If you try to go snowboarding with Tifa or Cid as main character a man comes out at Icicle Inn and stops you. Once Cloud rejoins you can snowboard down again and go to Great Glacier. If you try to climb Gaea's Cliff again Holzoff stops you, though. You need to take the "ice ramp" to leave the glacier.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:32, April 22, 2018 (UTC)

FFXIII-2 adornment

I heard there's a bug in the Archylte Steppe and the Live Trigger associated with it: if the player won't give the funny answer the first time the Live Trigger popups after fearyl's defeat, the player won't be able to obtain the adornment and its lost for good. Even reattempting the Archylte Steppe and giving the funny answer won't result with the adornment to be added to the party's inventory even though it wasn't obtained initially. So should we list it?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 16:20, September 9, 2012 (UTC)

FFVII Materia

I noticed Ifrit, Ramuh, Bahamut, Neo Bahamut, and perhaps many other Materias were missing from the list. I would add a section but it would involve additional research. JBed (talk) 14:30, April 28, 2013 (UTC)

Expansion

I added sections for FF3 and FF4, and extended that of FF2. There are some little-known missables in FF2 that I encountered during my playthrough, so I made sure to document those. Whether or not there is any way to source this info, I can't say.

If there's anyone out there who's more knowledgeable on these games, this article could really use some more info on FF3 (namely the DS version) and a section for FF6. I believe the Phoenix Downs are the only missables in the Famicom version of FF3, but there may be some other things I've overlooked. I've played through this version of the game only once.

I think I screwed up some of the formatting in the FFX section, unfortunately. I'm hoping another editor can go back and fix that for me. I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with Wikia syntax. 98.86.95.200 08:48, July 9, 2013 (UTC)

You did quite good, thanks for the info :). And don't worry about the formatting, I fixed it (two asterisks for a bullet under a bullet). Generally we don't need sources for gameplay info. I've played FF3 on DS a few times, so I can look into that. --Shockstorm (talk) 08:55, July 9, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I went back and expanded a little more. I had an idea for adding information about spin-offs and other games that are generally covered here on FFWiki, even though they aren't part of the main series. Maybe this list could include games like Parasite Eve, Chocobo's Dungeon, Final Fantasy Legend / SaGa, among others. 98.86.115.125 09:04, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

Rename?

Shouldn't the article simply be called Permanently Missable Items? Fenrir9 (talk) 20:07, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

I'd say that would be the case if the article was changed to discuss the nature of permanently missable items and the ways in which they become missed, as opposed to the broadly list-based formatting system currently in place. Jimcloud 20:12, August 8, 2013 (UTC)
An "Item" page can explain what an item is, but a "permanently missable" item is an item that can be permanently missed. You get it from the title, there isn't a need for explanation. The article's only purpose is to be a list. If the list were not there, this would not be an article because there would be no valuable content. JBed (talk) 20:16, August 8, 2013 (UTC)
Oh god, I forgot to remove the "Items" from "Permanently Missable". What I meant was to transform this article into a Permanently Missable which would include item(s), character(s), spell(s), etc). Shadow in FFVI can be permanently missable, he's even mention within this article by the way. Shadow isn't even an item, he's a character. FFIV:TAY, Bahamut (spell/summon) can be permanently missable along with a few other eidolons, etc. Personally, this would be better as a Permanently Missable article focusing on everything (character(s), spell(s), ect) that can be missed during a play-through. Fenrir9 (talk) 15:20, August 9, 2013 (UTC)

FFVIII Missable Power Ups

There is also a missable Luk Up & Str Up in the prison that can be gotten only once by card dueling the two players. These are very limited items. Also, I think the Battle Meter, Character Report, and GF Report section should be rewritten to further clarify it. You can also miss the opportunity to receive Rosetta Stones from the prison (although they can painfully be refined later, doing that is so tedious that you should mention them.). All of this could be mentioned in the same paragraph. --97.80.159.5 08:04, March 9, 2014 (UTC)

Feel free to alter the articles if you think something needs changing/adding. :)Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 15:08, March 9, 2014 (UTC)

Notes on article grammar and syntax

For some reason, my browser doesn't get along with Wikia's "Visual Editor" very well, so I'm unable to make mass edits to articles without inadvertently fucking something up. For instance, if I try to delete a few characters, the editor will proceed to delete entire lines indefinitely, as if I were holding down the delete key. Eh.

I figured it would be better to note some of the article's issues here, in case anyone else feels like addressing them.

- Someone (or perhaps several editors) persistently mangles the syntax of clauses that contain the word only. To quote TheFreeDictionary on usage:

When used as an adverb, only should be placed with care to avoid ambiguity. Generally this means having only adjoin the word or words that it limits. Variation in the placement of only can change the meaning of the sentence, as the following examples show:

  • "Dictators respect only force; they are not moved by words."
  • "Dictators only respect force; they do not worship it."

In this case, sentences such as, "This item can only be found at such-and-such location..." should be reworded to, "This item can be found only at such-and-such location..." otherwise the adverb isn't modifying the correct element(s).

- Persistent typos, like "accesories." Most modern browsers should have spell-checkers already built in.

- Maybe I'm just nitpicking at this point, but I cringe every time I see someone use "armors." Armor isn't a countable noun.

One can avoid the VisualEditor by selecting the Source Editor from the Edit dropdown at the top. If you still want to edit by section then you can Ctrl+Click an Edit button (or right click and open in new tab), or you could click on the link and drag it into the URL bar, or right click on the link and copy link location and paste it in the URL bar. The VisualEditor only appears (appears only?) in edit sections when the link is specifically clicked.
It's in BETA, so you would think that would mean they don't release to everyone. But no, they force it on all anons when it doesn't even work properly. 89.243.247.215 04:13, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

You can delete "ve" out of the url and you'll be able to enter the normal edit mode.

FFX-2, King of Missables

FFX-2 needs to be added. I'm guessing it's not there because it would be a very long project to compile all missables in that game.--107.218.182.13 17:37, August 3, 2014 (UTC)

Almost everything in that game is missable. XI and XIV will be a hard work too. Monterossa (talk) 11:01, August 13, 2014 (UTC)

LR: FFXIII "missables"

Is anything permanently missable in Lightning Returns, considering that it is possible to start a New Game+ and go back and get whatever you missed? The only missable content I can think of is a full 100% completion, if you consider all sidequests as a requisite. Luacas (talk) 01:35, September 23, 2014 (UTC)

If you need to start the game over or go to a previous save to get it, regardless by what means, it's missable. So X-2 and LR count. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 01:46, September 23, 2014 (UTC)

Molulu's Charm
