Why suddenly[]

Why suddenly did the page switch from youtube links of the full songs to just samples?

Wiki policy is to use sound samples over youtube videos when possible. It removes reliance on a third-party site and lessens the potential copyright infringements by not offering the full song. Drake Clawfang 15:38, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Translation[]

I'm not sure if the translation shown for Advent: One-Winged Angel is "official" but I can tell you something: It's not right. At all. Or perhaps it may relate just a liiiiitle bit with what it actually says in Latin but, semantically speaking, this thing couldn't be farther away from the actual meaning. This is the thread I began at the WordReference forums some time ago to discuss the translation issues. You'll see that, for example, the consensus was that the last verses are actually translated as:

He, who invited death

[was] born with an ill-fated punishment

Don't call [his] name

That [Man] will come again

Should we leave it as it is or should we change it? Faethin 01:40, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, but, precisely: They are NOT the same thing, they just seem to convey the same idea. Shouldn't we, at least, include some kind of clarification about the subject? Faethin 01:40, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree. The other translation is just... More powerful, I suppose is the best way to say it. We should add something.
Right, I'll do it, I can translate the whole thing, but this kind of editing would qualify as Original Research. How can I help that? Faethin 00:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
I don't know. Fan-translated lyrics are not something I think should be on a Wiki, but maybe put it on some site and put an external link to it?--Auron Kaizer 00:09, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Would the WordReference language forums do? Faethin 00:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Amen to that. May I, or would you prefer to do it yourself? Faethin 01:36, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Number Of Versions[]

I know I really don't have a good reputation here, but there's an important piece of information I think I need to place here for you guys. On my PSP I have not just the six versions listed on the page, but a grand total of eleven versions of one winged angel (only one of which as far as I suspect is a fan made version).

I'd be more than willing to provide the mp3s to back up my claim (and provide where they came from) and help with the wikim or be corrected as to how many are fan or official. ~ Gullwing_Vegeta

What is the correct name for the version used in Crisis Core? On the wiki its The World's Enemy, but I've also seen it somewhere called Enemy of the World, and on my iPod its called Vengeance on the World. I know its not that much of a difference really, but still...

The Man In The Black Cape 15:19, 24 February 2009 (UTC) - Neither Cloud nor Squall shall hinder us me

"The world's enemy" I typed it in on google video's and got the CC version. 1stclasswarrior 18:33, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

"The Enemy of the World is Created" is the title that appears on SquareSound's catalog. I don't have the time to change it right now. Faethinverba volant

So... what should it be? 1stclasswarrior 18:39, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

[there is a long, awkward silence]

well? 1stclasswarrior 19:56, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Don't look at me, I posed the question in the first place.

Dissidia[]

Why not have a video if we do not have a sample? 1stclasswarrior 18:54, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

We don't need a sample, the Dissidia version doesn't really differ enough from the samples already on the page to warrant its own sample. We have three different samples of three different versions, all for one single song. That's plenty, we don't need a fourth. Besides, it was agreed to avoid using videos for music articles when possible, and that was the improper coding for adding video anyway. Drake Clawfang 18:56, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Actually Drake, if we really wanted to be the most complete wiki possible, we would have tracks for all the different versions of every song. But who is willing to put in that kind of effort? --BlueHighwind 19:08, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

I used the new "insert video's" thing at the top. I know about the samples, but we do not have any samples. Tht is why I added it in the first place. 1stclasswarrior 18:58, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Re-read my message, please. 18:59, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
oops, sorry, While we are on the subject, what is the correct video coding? 1stclasswarrior 19:02, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
{{video| tags. Drake Clawfang

Speaking of Dissidia, we need to add in info for the weapon named after the song too I think...though I'll probably get to that when I get to it (same with Dancing Mad). Drake Clawfang

ACC long version[]

The Final Fantasy Advent Children Complete Mini Album is out, and there is this Advent: One-Winged Angel - ACC Long Version, which is some what different than the previous one. it has more precussion, an extended part for which Sephiroth flung Cloud into air and perform octaslash (more like octastab to me). a total of 6min 55 sec.

ACC long version[]

In the recently available Final Fantasy VII advent children complete: mini album, i found a this Advent: One-winged Angel - ACC Long Version. Comparing to the previous version, it has: 1)more precussion 2)slightly different "tones" 3)the part where Sephiroth uses octaslash(more like octastab to me) should we do something about it? Like add something to this page.

It's already noted under the AC section. It's different, but it's still basically the same version as before, just a big longer. Xenomic

If it's already noted on the page and it's not very different, there's no reason to write a whole new section for it. ScatheMote 22:53, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

One Winged Angel as a term[]

Does anything think it would worth noting that One Winged Angel is basically the term used to refer a villain transforming in a drastic way for a battle?--99.247.176.46 15:55, November 21, 2009 (UTC)

Um.....no it isn't. Drake Clawfang 17:48, November 21, 2009 (UTC)
That's a TV Tropes thing. You should not generalise. Faethinte audio 18:00, November 21, 2009 (UTC)
Also, on TV Tropes. Sephiroth/One-Winged Angel is as they say the "Trope Codifier" It's what popularized the term.--Rainy 03:11, January 24, 2017 (UTC)

Is it really ignored translation or not?[]

  • I had some spare time to use my computer so i did some research and etymology about One-winged angel. Each phrase seemed to be correct from the Latin-to-English Translation, but since Latin is an old and somewhat vague language the translation did have to be exact to bear the same meaning. i used Google translate as a guide and it seemed to have shown them correctly. i typed "One winged angel" and had translated to Latin. it showed "Angel" as translation but "Sephiroth Sephiroth" as alternate translation. it this translation really true?
lol, google translate...lol lol ha ha ha ha...haaaaaaha.. http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd362/KayRC/wikisig-2.png

In the pc 2012 version of Final Fantasy 7 the choir make absolutely no sound is this a glitch or is it supposed to happen

It's supposed to happen. Blame Square Enix for copying the music exactly from the 1990s PC version, even though computers can handle much higher quality stuff nowadays. C A T U S E 06:48, January 13, 2013 (UTC)
Cat, the music is NOT the same as the 1998 release. The 2012 music is far better than 1998's music, however unlike 1998 it does not have the choir on OWA. 79.69.203.251 14:03, January 13, 2013 (UTC)
And also it should be noted that 2012 uses an OGG file format over the original MIDI file format. 79.69.203.251 14:07, January 13, 2013 (UTC)

One-winged angel plagiarized?[]

Hi, something has been bugging me for awhile, and hopefully someone can answer. I know Nobuo said One-winged Angel was inspired by the Psycho theme, but I don't believe it.

One-winged Angel sounds like an exact copy of various songs from the Omen... particularly the song "The Alter" in fact, every part of One-winged Angel can be found in The Omen's 1976 soundtrack. The ONLY difference is the lyrics.

I know sampling small bits from other songs isn't an issue, but copying an entire soundtack, with the only original content being lyrics? 71.53.156.144 01:09, January 24, 2017 (UTC)

Advent: One-Winged Angel lyrics official English translation?[]

Where do we get the official English translation of the lyrics from again? I can't find them anywhere on official sources. Someone mentioned in a discussion above that they're from the pamphlet from the OST but they're not there. The booklet only has the Latin and Japanese lyrics. Have we had translation disguised as "official" this whole time? LightKeyDarkBlade (talk) 11:25, 15 November 2021 (UTC)

If you can't find it, then it probably does not exist. It would make sense if they did not make an official English translation on it at all, I mean, why would they translate it to English...
Remove it? The above years old conversation makes it sound like it is all wrong, anyway.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:05, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
Well I guess I'll remove it then. They could an official English translation but I think at the time when the OST was released (2005), not much attention was paid to English yet. Not like now when most songs have either straight-up English lyrics or English translation, like with the case for FF7R and FFXIV. LightKeyDarkBlade (talk) 08:48, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
