Ultimate Attack Name[]
Hopefully I'm doing this right. Regardless, in the article, Omega Weiss's ultimate attack is listed "meteor," with a note that it's probably unrelated to the ultimate black magic spell by the same name, in the original. The thing is, if you keep with the pattern of naming the Weapons' ultimate attacks (Ultima Beam, Diamond Shot, etc.), the metoer attack should probably be called "Omega Meteor." Regardless, the attacks have no official names. It simply has a graphic a lot like a meteor. So, I'm not really certain HOW that part of the article should be ammended, I just know that it should.

Those names are given in the strategy guide. There's a discernable difference between "firaga" and "claw-swipe combo" as far as whether or not the name is official or just a description. On the other hand, the names of the enemies aren't given in-game, either. With the exception of bosses, of course. And, of course, Guard Hounds are kind of obvious. But most of the DG Soldiers are unnamed in the game or anything else, besides the guide. Quite the conundrum. EDIT: Took a better look at that source. First of all, it's a fan-made site. Second of all, it has the DG Soldiers' names written as SOLDIERS, which is incorrect. Overall, not a very good source.
Actually I do have to agree with Neospeak. The names come solely from the Bradygames guide, but they are not seen inside of the game itself. Though Bradygames is the official guide, in my time on my website I have learned they are not always right. I also believe the name Meteor should be called Omega Meteor in the tradition of WEAPON attacks. I originally had it typed that way on the site, but it got too many emails asking what it was, so it was changed. The typing of the SOLDIER in DOC was simply to keep in faith with the original FFVII. The only accurate part of the bestiaries within DOC is the stats. Though referenced from Bradygames, it was cross referenced with everyone else I could find.
I was supposed to write something in here earlier, obviously forgot.
Yay, BK you're still here.
So, what do you want me to do? The most official name is "Meteor". So I could just change it, and re-phrase its section on Meteor, or just don't make a change. ILHI 21:35, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Please, just call me Neo. Did you write that site? If so, I feel kind of bad. I assure you, the site isn't bad, it's just...not good as a source. As for the SOLDIER/soldier thing, there ARE SOLDIERs in Dirge, just not the DG Soldiers. Anyway, yeah, Bradygames has to name attacks that aren't named, when it's set up like that. They aren't really "official," they're just descriptions. And considering the steps that the Compilation is taking with its meteor-based attacks to distinguish them from the Black Materia spell, ("Comet," "Meteorites," "Meteor Shots," etc.) I highly doubt that it's official. I'm sorry, I know I'm pretty much repeating myself. Anyway, I'll make an edit, I just wanna get the go-ahead, before I do anything. What I would do is probably just say that the name isn't official or change the name. That's part of the reason I made this topic: I'm not sure which would be more acceptable. The attack could also be Comet, though, which confuses things further. Still, I think that Omega Meteor is most likely the most proper name for the attack. Regardless, given the fact that we can't really say for certain what the attack is, perhaps the former option would be better.
Yea, it is my site. It became my hobby, when drawing became to painful to do with the injuries on my hand. Do not worry about offense. There is none taken. I am a fan site...well more of a guide site. The only thing I would actually call a official source on FF is Square themselves, and they are about as talkative as a rock. It does keep me out of trouble though...and that is good.)
I really didn't think you minded, but I felt like such a dick that I HAD to say something. Yeah, I would agree with you there: Pretty much the only source you can use for a game is the game company's official stance. You could also try to interpret the text, but that's considerably less foolproof, as we're seeing today. It's really a good thing that they stay so quiet, though. Keeps 'em from screwing themselves over, later on, and it makes discerning the story more enjoyable. Not to derail the topic, but what hand injuries?
Back in 1994 I worked at a candy factory in Phoenix, Az. I was trying to do what the boss had done a million times, and got my thumb caught in a candy wrapping machine. It cut my thumb twice. Once about half way, the second not so deep. Well, they spared no expense in getting it corrected. I had 76 stitches in my thumb to make sure everything was in its right place. But from then on, there was no feeling in the tip of my thumb. Nothing altering though. FFWD to 2005. working at Circle K in Sedona. The Kalil guy dropped a 2 liter of soda, and it exploded. While going for the mop, someone was asking something, and I was giving them my attention. Mop is harmless enough right? Well, I had no idea the graveyard employee had stuck a 6 inch razor on the end of the mop handle. Hit the same scar as before. Got it good too. Probably could have had it taken care of properly with no regrets there as well. But after the initial call to the manager and assistant manager, no one would answer the phone. No one came in either. I did not get to go in to the hospital for over four hours. When the evening shift gal showed up, she freaked because I was so pale. (Usually have more of a native color to my skin) Long story short, the nerve in the thumb is on the underside of the skin, rather than the muscle. I hit it just right, and whatever I am carrying hits the floor. As for writing utensils, they rest right on top of it. I can only go about 10 minutes before it hurts too much. I am hoping to figure a way out to get around it, but as of now I cannot find one. I am not helping it, because work since then until this job has been cooking, and all about my hands. I am hoping it will get to where I can draw again, but I do not think it will. Would love to sue them for the loss of it, but I do not draw for a living, so it does not effect my income.
That sucks. Why the Hell would someone put a razor blade in a mop handle? As for what you can do to bypass it, the only thing I can think of is trying to train yourself to either (a) use a different posture or (b) strengthen your other hand. And, since the debate seems to be pretty much over, no one's going to have a problem if I go and put that unofficial names disclaimer in, right?
I've added it in with an "aka." so readers who know it by the inaccurate, more popular name will know it's the right thing. ILHI 19:20, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I guess that works. I do have another comment on the article, but I think I should split the page up first.
Post-Omega Meteor Fight[]
I was bored one day, so I experimented with the Omega Weiss battle, & found some stuff that I might or might not add to the article about what happens from when he uses the attack onwards. What I wanted to comment on was this: It says that one will probably kill the boss before it can use Omega Meteor. Is this true for most people? 'Cause I've never been able to do that, & honestly thought it did it automatically whenever it lost a certain amount of HP.
Huge Image?[]
Is it me, or is the image at the top of this article far too large? Does it need to be that big for some reason? 1stclasswarrior 15:24, September 26, 2010 (UTC)
- This article looks odd because it doesn't have the boss's stats like enemy articles normally do. Why doesn't it, btw?Keltainentoukokuu 16:35, September 26, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu
Like Father, Like Son[]
Is it just me, or is what Hojo intended to do with OMEGA WEAPON exactly what Sephiroth was going to do: turn into a god and drain the Planet of its lifestream?
Damage[]
Something I've been thinking recently, are we sure that the attacks do a fixed amount of damage? The guide generally assumes that you've been following its advice pretty closely, so that might only be true for a certain general level/equipment setup. I mean, you have a defense stat, surely it does something.
