Script[]

(emphasis added)
Great-Chief: "You do not know the workings of the stone. Then we are no different."
Ashe: "What?"
Great-Chief: "In ages past, the Gods made a gift of Nethicite to my people. But its manner of use eluded us. Displeased by our failure, the Gods took back there stones. They chose instead to give them to a hume king."

In short, they didn't know how (and thus couldn't) use the Nethicite. --Hecko X 16:53, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Image[]

The image is not Gerun, he/she/it looks different. See Wikipedia. Bluerダヨ 17:06, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, Renmiri came and changed the image. But I changed it back. The Gerun image is really much better. The other one is too dark and small.PiccoloNamek 06:19, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Instead of several pictures of the same Occurian, it would be better if we had one picture of each of them. There's no need to have four views of the same one.PiccoloNamek 23:33, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Except for those who want to see what the race looks like, for fan art or fan fiction purposes. Check the Garif page. The pictures prove they are not male Viera. Renmiri 23:56, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
I don't have the other Occuria ripped yet, might not have it at all as the 3D viewer I use crashes on some of the files. This is what I got. I'll post better ones if/ when I have them Renmiri 23:56, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
You might attempt to capture a screenshot of all the other Occuria. They all appeared at one cutscene. And also, FFXII Ultimania Omega has an artwork design of all the other Occuria. I'd scan it, but my scanner's busted. Bluerダヨ 03:40, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I have the Ultimania Scan but I have to rescan it, which will take a while since my windows Vista is refusing to scan anything in color halfway decently. Renmiri 21:18, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

FFXII Ultimania Omega has an artwork design of all the other Occuria, but in truth it left out one Occuria. There were six, this including Venat. Good job anyways. Bluerダヨ 21:56, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Off topic, but where did you get your Guide from? Are they still easy to come across? I love that artwork, and would love to have a hard copy of it. Diablocon 22:03, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
I got mine in Kinokuniya japanese bookstore. Its out of stock nowadays at my place _ Bluerダヨ 22:15, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Mine I got on ebay. I scanned a bunch of pages and have the Table of contents here Renmiri 23:50, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

PS: Shouldn't FF Wiki have a section on FF Merchandise ? At least for the "official" one ? Renmiri 23:50, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Write a Merch section. --Crazyswordsman 01:19, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
I have ;) Just wondering how I could format it here since you guys don't use subpages Renmiri 22:50, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Check out[]

The new Gerun image I made. Isn't it lovely? The Occuria may be bad, but they sure are pretty to look at. I will be uploading ultra-clear images for the others very soon. PiccoloNamek 01:04, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Keep up the good work!!!! Azul 01:06, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Updated other pictures. PiccoloNamek 01:37, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Practical Difficulties[]

I've just had a wierd idea. I know you're all just going to answer back "blah blah, powerful arcane creatures of ancient yore, yadda yadda" but, as a serious question: Really, how the hell did the Occuria do half the stuff they're credited as having done - built the Pharos at Ridorana, the Ancient City of Giruvegan, forged any number of crystalline swords - when, physically speaking, they can't - they don't have any arms! Yes, I appreciate that they are practically magic made solid and are practically gods themselves, and some of the stuff is perfectly within their remit - apocalyptic rains of fire and death, the nethicite, the Espers, being generally sneaky and controlling the world from behind the scenes, etc, but when you get down to it, it doesn't matter how much magic power they have, arms are still pretty damn important for physical stuff like cutting stone, putting blocks of it one on top of the other and cementing them together to eventually make a city (weird mental image - think of the Occuria on a building site wearing hard hats and high-visibility jackets), and the same for the swords. How did they do it? Telekinesis? I still can't really see them getting up to something like that... The Man In The Black Cape 21:40, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

Plot hole. ---- TenzaZangetsu 24 September 2009 (UTC)

They probably just did the same in creating those things as they created Ashe's treaty-blade. Whip it out of thin air!!!!!

They crapped all of it. - Henryacores^ 00:11, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

They can probably move things with telekinesis. Moogleknight24 13:17, January 3, 2012 (UTC)Moogleknight24

the occuria's speech patterns in the english localization[]

i haven't played xii in a while, but i've seen several sources state that the occuria speak in iambic tetrameter, and the rogue occuria speaks in iambic pentameter. i think this deserves a mention in the article, even if it's mentioned elsewhere on the wiki (which it isn't, as far as i know). 68.99.23.54 04:06, January 30, 2015 (UTC)

What are these several sources? Would be interesting to see.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 09:34, January 30, 2015 (UTC)

The true nature of the Occuria?[]

How much room is there for speculation on this wiki? Because I think I've realized the true nature of the Occuria, but it isn't quite explicitly spelled out. I believe that the true nature of the present-day Occuria is disembodied merges of many souls, both male and female, from their past, embodied, existence. I will cite the following pieces of evidence:

  • "Souls and entites, though vague and lacking in substance, are nonetheless possessed of great power. No great surprise, for are they not the source of life's energy? Were these two essences to become one, you can imagine the result, I am sure. It is said that the high arcana is nothing less than the product of this union. And it is my belief that in these beings we may perceive the true form of the gods." (Aletap rumors, High Arcana). The Occuria are of course the gods, and the high arcana is formed from a merging of souls.
  • The Occuria often have glowing eyes in the normal places, but they tend to have similar glowing spots in odd places on their forms, suggesting the merging of multiple separate forms.
  • Their voices: multilayered in the Japanese, both male and female in the English. As if they were composed of multiple entities with both genders being present.
  • Their city is far larger than needed for their present, extremely small, population. My theory explains where the other Occuria went.

Hashmalum (talk) 16:36, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

I agree with your assessment! I think Occuria used to look like a normal Ivalice race but how they were then is impossible to know now, as they have become Mist (souls). Now they can be immortal, but they can't actually do anything with the physical realm anymore so they just try to trick others to do what they want, or bribe them with concentrated Mist (nethicite). Their "bodies" themselves are stones that hold Mist (nethicite!).
I think the aletap rumor can be mentioned, and the multi-layered voice. The glowing bits are impossible to know if they are eyes, as in with any seeing capacity, but glowing blips often represent souls in Japanese folklore (Phantom Forest, lifestream, pyreflies, FFXV "soul powers") so them having lots of glowy bits could be...something. But maybe too speculative. The city size is probably not important as it is a dungeon level so it is whatever size they wanted the dungeon to be, and we may not have met every Occuria who ever existed. Maybe the rest are long gone and only a few still stay here.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:02, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
Added some things, see if you think it's good. Can't write that they are beings who have transcended physical existence to live as Mist because we don't see that happen, but I am pretty sure that's what they are. Forget reincarnation, just stay around as sentient Mist. Now you can call yourself "god" but actually you can't really do anything anymore but float around as a ghost.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:33, 17 March 2022 (UTC)
