Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Mindflayer". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Is this redirected based on most common usage? If it's by translation, mindflayer is the correct term (this enemy is pretty much stolen from D&D). --77.99.30.226 00:24, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I could understand most common, but original? That seems an odd standard to work by, considering the FF translations in general have grown immensely more refined over the years. --77.99.30.226 17:31, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Merge[]

Requesting upgrade to parent (and the merger of "Mindflayer (Enemy)" and "Mindflayer (Summon)") since enemies and summons called Mindflayer are both the same thing, and the two items link in with the enemy to summon transition in FFIV and its sequel. 88.108.104.175 19:58, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

BTW, I need someone to do this because I don't have a straight hour to spend (yes, it would take longer than an hour to perfect this page). 88.108.104.175 20:42, June 13, 2010 (UTC)
I agree with the merge, and I also have some time to merge them together later today. ScatheMote 20:44, June 13, 2010 (UTC)
I was under the impression that this page is going to follow the [[Bomb (Race)]] page. BLUER一番 15:22, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
Also, I will be performing History maintenance for this article. Seems to me lots of that was lost in the process. Very unfair. BLUER一番 15:29, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
It does follow the Bomb (Race) page somewhat. That article includes information on the Enemy and Summon, like this parent does. The Mindflayer is not a weapon, and it has already been suggested that the item ties in with the enemy and summon. Which I think is true; the Mindflayer does not appear as a completely random shield or mace, but an item that is one-use and grants the related summon ability.
Hasn't Scathe already listed the History on this talk page? 8bit 15:34, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
It's for the software to track down user edits. BLUER一番 15:46, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
Can you explain how you did it, please? I want to understand so I can do it in the future ^^ It looks to me like you merged the history of the (Summon) page with the (Enemy) page, and then moved the (Enemy) page to the parent page. I don't understand how the histories can mesh together... wouldn't one overwrite the other? 8bit 16:27, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
When you delete an article, each revision is kept for admins to access. If you re-create a page at that name, then that is also there. Restoring all revisions keeps all entries to the history, and since both articles were up at the same time, it merges them together. I think so anyway, I never would have bothered since in my opinion, it doesn't look good.
If I try to view the gradual progression of the Mindflayer article, I check through the differences, and very often, one user replaces an enemy article with a summon article, and vice-versa. It would be so cool if you could make parallel histories. So you can view the enemy articles differences until it merges into the merged article, and the same for the summon... so you can see where two became one. I'm not sure how that would show though.
Anyways, I just merged "Piscodemon" into here for the same reason as Grenade on Bomb. I only carried the XII section over, and part of the intro went into the Tactics version. So not a lot. But if you want to merge the histories, just so you know. 88.108.120.183 12:01, June 16, 2010 (UTC)
