I don't know if I should bother adding it as a reference, but this is the first time I've seen Materia and Spiritus's official Roman alphabet names. JBed (talk) 21:52, February 21, 2017 (UTC)
Etymology[]
Is it possible Materia's name is also derived from "mater," the Latin word for "mother?" In English, the goddess's name is sometimes pronounced "Mah-tair-ee-uh," rather than "Muh-teer-ee-uh." Not sure if this should be added to the article or not. Thoughts? - The Final Fantasy Nameless Adventurer / Transient Pathfinder 17:44, March 3, 2018 (UTC)
- Sounds plausible. I think it could be mentioned.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:15, March 3, 2018 (UTC)
- Oh! It's very likely. "mater" has been transliterated as "マーテル", which makes the Japanese name make a lot more sense (Materia is usually transliterated (including in VII) as マテリア). JBed (talk) 21:14, March 3, 2018 (UTC)
