Mutsonokami

Should we make article for Mutsonokami? When I was creating a page for it (red links are bad), the page says that it was redirect to the very same page a(I might be blind) and the only contributor was Xenomic. I think we should as it make appearance in more then two games (I was told some time ago when something makes appearance in three or more titles a page is for it is good).—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 23:00, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Current rule is four or more appearances or notability. Not many weapons qualify for notability however. It's only things like Cerberus -- character's signature weapons. JBed 23:04, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Masamune is not a nodachi

Well, a small correction about katana-nodachi confusions. Sephiroth's manliness sword is not a nodachi, judging from how he handles it, the shape of the blade, hilt, and grip, masamune is just an overly long katana, not a nodachi. thanks... --Erkaz 05:35, December 19, 2010 (UTC)

Sephiroth's Masamune

Is it worth mentioning that Sephiroth's Masamune seems to alter its length in different games? I swear in Crisis Core it was quite short compared to Final Fantasy VII. Tia-Lewise 12:55, September 15, 2011 (UTC)

Decided this section could be less confusing & better worded. Also, katanas are often not the strongest swords in the games.

I did not write this part of the article to be elitist. I find it absurd that Final Fantasy puts Katana as its own series of weapon (and they ARE backswords). They are portrayed this way... for reasons that clearly evade me. And when I meant unmatched in cutting power I mean portrayed and as having unmatched cutting power, not stat wise. I also can't see much backing for things like blocking and parrying considering its construction and design compared with a double edged sword or Occidental swords.

		I didn't accuse you of elitism, just factual inaccuracy. First of all, yes, katanas are backswords. But just because they CAN be described that way, it doesn't mean that it's the BEST way to describe them. "Single edged" means the same thing & is much more accessible to the average reader. So, with that out of the way, here is why I don't consider the rest of that information to be factually relevant: Whether or not katanas have elevated significance in Final Fantasy is highly open to interpretation. Are katanas portrayed as magical & otherworldly? Sure. You've got Cyan's Bushido, Sephiroth's Masamune, the Samurai's Iaido in Tactics, & so on. But that's only looking at half of the picture. Samurai blades in Tactics are also incompatible with the abilities of the magic knight classes, arguably the flashiest & strongest in the game. Additionally, "kensei/sword saint" Orlandeu wields a EUROPEAN sword, though he can use both. In the Compilation of FFVII, any main character's sword is strong enough to trade blows with the Masamune. Cyan's Bushido is a unique ability of his, not of the katana. Indeed, almost all swords are compatible with Runic, meaning that both katanas & longswords have some quasi-magic power. Finally, European style swords are much more widespread, appearing in more games, on more characters, & almost always the main hero's weapon. Hell, the Excalibur is probably the more esteemed Final Fantasy sword than the Masamune. The fact is that swords in general are portrayed as unrealistically powerful in Final Fantasy. This can lean more towards katanas or longswords at certain points, but there is no consistent pattern of one being better than the other in a certain area, with the exception that longswords generally have higher attack. Yes, katanas shouldn't be able to block like that, but that's just 1 item on the laundry list of anime physics in Final Fantasy. Hence the "fantasy" part of the title. So I determined that the intro paragraph was stating not the facts, but an interpretation of the facts, & one that wasn't very clear at that.
